What the rules say

There is no single national license for junk removal. The answer depends on your county, your state and what the business agrees to haul. These rules apply to the haulers, not to you, but they show what a legitimate company should hold. In New York City, a trade waste license carries a $5,000 fee plus a $600 background investigation fee. A business hauling waste may also need a waste hauler permit and a USDOT number for its trucks. In Austin, Texas, the city's development office regulates private haulers, and fines can reach $2,000.

Season, weather and access

Winter (December to February) and summer (June to August) bring the largest changes in weather. Book the pickup for a dry day, so bagged waste and furniture can be moved safely, and in winter make sure the path to the curb is clear. Hauler quotes depend on how many trips are needed, so ask whether the job takes one truck or more.

How it is priced and what to write

Prices are usually set per load or per job rather than per item, and the dump fee is part of the cost. In Los Angeles, one dump estimate was about $98 per ton, and one estimate for a large clean-out came to $7,092. Describe the waste type, how much there is in pickup-truck loads, whether it is bagged, the floor (stairs or elevator), the address, the date you need and your budget. Say whether the hauler should load the items or only take what is ready at the curb.

Requests on BlaBlaPrice are free for buyers. You describe the job in your own words, the AI asks for missing details and looks through local price lists and sellers' websites, then shows the prices it finds. Registered sellers reply in the chat with their own offer, and your contacts stay hidden until you decide who to contact. Start from the request field on the home page, or read how BlaBlaPrice works. Questions and answers

How much does junk removal cost in the US?

A typical job is about $133 to $372, a small load about $107 to $396 and a large load $600 to $1,099. The price depends on the volume and the access.

Do I need a license to hire a hauler?

No single national license exists. Ask the company to show its registration and any waste hauler permit that its county or state requires.

Is the dump fee included?

Ask before you book. Dump fees are charged per ton, and one Los Angeles estimate listed about $98 per ton, so check whether the quote covers the dump.

Can the crew take bagged waste from an apartment with stairs?

Yes, if you say so in the request. Tell the company the floor and whether there are stairs, because access changes the price.
