Audio equipment repair: speakers, amplifiers, headphones
What gets repaired and why the exact model matters
People bring portable speakers, home theatres, amplifiers, receivers, turntables, subwoofers, headphones and mixing consoles to audio technicians. The difficulty varies a lot. Replacing a driver or a charging port is one thing. Tracing a fault in the circuit of a valve amplifier is something else entirely.
So give the full brand and model, for example “JBL Charge 5”, not just “JBL”. The model decides whether spare parts and documentation exist, and whether the unit can be repaired at all. Some casings are glued shut and can be damaged when opened.
What to write in your request
- what the equipment is — speaker, amplifier, receiver, headphones, turntable;
- the model — brand and exact name;
- the fault — not charging, crackling driver, no sound on one channel, hum, will not switch on;
- the cause — a fall, liquid spilled, a power surge, plain wear;
- spare parts — original only, or compatible ones are fine;
- pickup or courier — you will bring it, you need it collected, or you will send it by courier;
- time, warranty on the repair, city or area and budget.
Example: “My portable JBL Charge 5 speaker stopped charging after a fall from the balcony. I need a check-up and a new charging port; compatible parts are fine. I will send it by courier from Sydney, 3–4 days, warranty of at least 3 months, budget up to $36.”
How to compare offers from technicians
Diagnosis is a separate step. Sometimes a technician gives a rough figure and the exact price only after opening the unit. So ask whether the diagnosis is free and whether its cost is deducted if you go ahead with the repair. Also find out what happens if the repair turns out not to be worth it.
- Are spare parts included in the price, or only labour?
- What does the warranty cover: the replaced part or the whole unit?
- Do they test the sound at volume after the repair, not only check that it switches on?
- Do they have experience with your type of equipment? A valve amplifier and a Bluetooth speaker are very different jobs.
A common mistake is to open the unit yourself before visiting a technician. It makes the original cause harder to find. Do not switch the device on after liquid gets into it either, as corrosion can spread.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You do not need to look up service centres by their reviews and call each one. Create a request and technicians reply in the chat with a rough price, or what it depends on, plus time and warranty. Your request is checked before it is shown, and you get hints on what is missing. Reviews are visible next to the offers, and technicians can see where they stand among the others, so they often improve their terms. Only the technician you choose gets your contacts.
