Veil, tiara and jewellery for the bride: how to choose and buy well

Start with the outfit, not the accessory

A veil, tiara, gloves or shrug should complement the outfit, not fight with it. If the outfit is richly decorated with lace or crystals, choose simpler accessories. And the other way round: a minimalist outfit can carry a rich tiara. So before you write your request, keep a photo of the wedding dress and its colour in front of you.

Veil: length and fabric

The length of the veil changes the whole look. A short one (to the shoulders or elbows) doesn't get in the way of dancing. A fingertip-length veil is a good all-rounder, while a long “cathedral” veil with a train is stunning at the ceremony, but it gets taken off for the reception. Tulle can be soft or stiffer, with a cut edge, a lace edge or beads. If the outfit has lace, the lace on the veil should match it in colour and pattern.

Check the colour against the fabric too: ivory and white side by side show a clear difference.

What to put in your request

  • what exactly – veil, tiara, comb, headband, jewellery, gloves, shrug, garter;
  • size – the length of the veil in metres, or the size of gloves and shrug;
  • colour – white, ivory, champagne, the metal tone for jewellery;
  • decoration – lace, pearls, crystals, embroidery;
  • which outfit it is for – silhouette, fabric, decoration;
  • condition – new or second-hand;
  • wedding date;
  • budget, if you want to state it.

Example: “I need a 3 m veil, ivory, with a lace edge, to go with a mermaid-style gown with lace. New, wedding on 5 July, city Perth. Budget up to $69 with a hair comb if possible.”

How to compare offers

Ask for photos in daylight, not only studio shots: colours in photos often differ. Ask about the fastening (comb, pin, elastic) and how easily it can be moved once your hair is already done.

For metal jewellery ask about the plating and whether it can irritate the skin, and for crystals ask whether they are glass, cubic zirconia or real Swarovski. The difference in price comes from exactly this, so don't compare them as if they were the same.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You describe the accessory once, and sellers and craftspeople send offers in the chat: photos, the price or what it depends on, and timing. BlaBlaPrice shows the offer that gives the best value first, and reviews of the seller are next to each one. Sellers see their place among the others, so they often improve their terms. Contacts are hidden until you choose a seller. Details are on the “How it works” page, and you can create a request here.

Don't forget wedding shoes and lingerie. More ideas are in the “Wedding” section.

Questions and answers

Which veil length should I choose?

A short one or a fingertip-length veil is more comfortable for dancing and the reception. A long veil looks great at the ceremony and in photos, but it is harder to move in.

Can I buy a veil and tiara separately from the dress?

Yes, just state the colour, fabric and silhouette of the outfit. Then sellers will suggest options that match it.

How is Swarovski different from ordinary crystals?

It is a brand of higher-quality crystals, usually more expensive. If you want exactly these, say so in your request and ask the seller for proof.

How is a veil fixed to the hairstyle?

Most often with a comb or a pin. Check this with the seller and agree it with your hairdresser in advance.
