How to hire a general labourer: unloading, helper work, manual labour
When you need a general labourer
You hire a general labourer when there is a lot of work and skill is not the main thing: unloading a truck, carrying out building rubble, helping a mason or plasterer, clearing a site, moving furniture and materials. Most often it is a day or two, or regular help on a site. That is exactly why a vague request like “workers needed” creates chaos: some people turn up with real stamina, others just to have a look.
What to include in the request
The more precisely you describe the task, the faster you find someone ready for it:
- Duties — unloading, helper work, demolition, cleaning, carrying loads.
- Pay — per hour, per shift or per day, for example $12 a day, and how often you pay, say daily.
- Work location — city and area, for example Sydney.
- Schedule — for example, 8 am to 6 pm.
- Type of employment — for 3 days, permanent, seasonal, on paper or not.
- Experience — usually “no experience”, but for work near machinery or with heavy loads you can set requirements.
- Accommodation — whether you provide a place to stay if the site is far away.
Example request
“Two general labourers needed in Sydney, for 3 days: unloading tiles and building materials, carrying rubble out of a flat. Work from 8 am to 6 pm, pay $12 a day, paid daily. No experience needed, loads up to 25 kg.”
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You describe the task once instead of calling ten numbers. The request is checked: no ads or contact details, and you get hints on what to add. Then people in your area reply in the chat: when they can start, whether they are ready for that amount of work, what they expect per day. BlaBlaPrice shows the strongest replies first, with the candidate's reviews next to each. Your phone number stays hidden, and you pay nothing for the search. More on the page “How it works”.
How to avoid mistakes
Write the weight and kind of load: people ready to carry cement bags and people who clean a flat need to be searched for differently. Agree on pay before starting, especially for a one-day job: it is better to settle travel and lunch at once. If the task turns out to need more skill, you need a construction worker, and for building walls a bricklayer.
For safety, check that the team has gloves and protective footwear and is ready to work in them. For regular work offer proper employment: it attracts reliable people.
