Toy vehicles: how to buy a toy car or an RC car at a good price
A model for play or for a collection
Inexpensive Hot Wheels cars and collectible Bburago models in 1:18 scale are a completely different level. The first must be tough and cheap, because they get lost and broken. The second are valued for the accuracy of detail and are usually kept on a shelf. So first decide: is it for play, a gift or a collection?
On BlaBlaPrice you describe what you are looking for once, and sellers reply with offers in the chat: model, price, terms, delivery. You won't have to scroll through identical listings in different shops. It is free for buyers.
What to put in your request
- Type of vehicle — car, truck, train set with carriages, plane, tractor, bus, race track.
- Control — remote-control, friction, wind-up or a static model.
- Brand or series — Hot Wheels, Siku, Bburago, Maisto. If you know the exact model, write it.
- Size — scale, for example 1:16 or 1:64, or length in centimetres.
- Child's age — the youngest need large ones without small parts.
- Power — for remote-control ones: battery pack or batteries, running time.
- Condition — new or used.
- Budget and delivery city.
Example: “I need a remote-control off-road car in 1:16 scale for a 5-year-old, with a battery that lasts at least 30 minutes. New, courier delivery to Adelaide, budget up to $52.”
What to look at in remote-control models
This is where most of the details are. Check whether the battery is removable and whether you can buy a spare: children don't drive for long on one charge. Find out the remote's range and band (2.4 GHz is better, because several cars won't interfere with each other). Check whether spare parts such as wheels and shock absorbers are available, because these models break.
Train sets and collectible models
For a train set, compatibility and the number of track pieces matter: find out whether you can add track and carriages later, and whether there are curved and straight sections. For collectible models the condition counts: scratches on the paint, missing mirrors or a damaged box greatly affect the price. If you are looking for a gift, it is better to state the age, and the seller will suggest a safe model.
How to compare offers
- The scale and size must match, otherwise the “same” car turns out half the size.
- For collectible models, ask about the condition of the box.
- For train sets, check the number of track pieces and compatibility with older sets.
- Whether batteries, a charger and a remote are included.
The platform shows the offer with the best value first, with reviews of the seller next to it. Sellers see where they stand and can improve their terms, so the price often turns out better. Only the seller you choose sees your contacts.
If your child likes to build, take a separate look at construction sets. For story play add toy figures, and find everything else in the “Toys” section.
