Trailers & motorhomes: say what exactly you’re looking for

Choose a subcategory in “Trailers & motorhomes” — so the request goes to the sellers who actually sell this.

Buy a trailer, semi-trailer or motorhome: offers from sellers

What do you need the trailer for

A trailer is chosen to fit the load and the towing vehicle, not the other way round. First decide what you will carry, with what, and how often, and only then look at the design.

For household moves and trips to the farmhouse, a car trailer is enough. For machines and quad bikes a car transporter trailer is handy, and for heavy machinery a low-loader. For selling from a vehicle there is the vending trailer, and for carrying goods in an enclosed space the box trailer.

Freight and farm options

For long-haul transport choose semi-trailers: flatbeds, tippers and, for liquids, tankers. On the farm a grain trailer and a tractor trailer are useful. For containers there is the container carrier, and an ordinary freight trailer suits mixed loads.

Motorhomes and camping

If you dream of travel, look at motorhomes, camping trailers and caravans. A motorhome is more convenient on the move, but it drives and parks like a large vehicle. A caravan is usually cheaper and gives you a base on the spot, but needs a vehicle that is allowed to tow that weight.

What to put in your request

  • type — car transporter, flatbed, box, caravan and so on;
  • gross weight and load capacity — do not exceed what is allowed for your towing vehicle;
  • size of the platform or body — length and width in metres;
  • number of axles and brakes — with or without brakes;
  • year and condition — new or used, the state of the frame and suspension;
  • papers — registration, the invoice;
  • city and delivery;
  • budget, if you want to state it.

Common mistakes

The most common is to buy a trailer that your vehicle is not allowed to tow because of its weight. Check the permitted towing weight in the vehicle's papers and your licence category. Another mistake is not looking at the frame and axles: rust and misalignment show only at inspection. On a used trailer, check the lights, the tow hitch, the tyres and the brakes. A trailer needs registration and working lights, and the vehicle needs a tow bar that is fitted properly.

For motorhomes and caravans, ask for papers on the gas system and electrics and for the service history, and look for signs of leaks.

For a used one, check that the chassis number matches the papers, and ask whether there is a spare wheel and safety chains. If you can, take the trailer for a test trip with your own vehicle: you will see at once how the hitch works and how the trailer behaves on the road.

Describe how you will load: side height, ramps, winch and tie-down points depend on the cargo, and sellers who know your job will suggest suitable models straight away.

For a motorhome or caravan, ask about gross weight, number of berths, heating, toilet, water and independent power, and whether the vehicle has passed its fitness check. The state of the roof and seams matters, because leaks do not show at once: ask to see it in wet weather or at least have the wall moisture checked.

How BlaBlaPrice helps here

You write one request, and sellers of trailers and motorhomes reply in the chat: what exactly, price, timing, delivery. The platform shows the best-value offer first, and seller reviews are visible next to each one. Contacts stay hidden. Read how it all works on the “How it works” page. You will find a towing vehicle in the “Trucks” section.

Questions and answers

Which licence category do I need for a trailer?

It depends on the gross weight of the whole combination. Check the rules for your licence category and the permitted towing weight in your vehicle's papers.

Do car trailers need to be registered?

Usually yes, and you need the trailer's papers for it. Ask the seller whether they are in order and check the registration rules with your local transport authority.

Which is better for machinery: a car transporter or a low-loader?

For light machinery such as a quad bike a car transporter is usually enough. Heavy machinery goes on a low-loader, because it is built for a large weight.

Can I buy a trailer with delivery to another city?

Yes, write the city in the request. Sellers will give the cost and time of delivery.
