Coolant, Brake Fluid, AdBlue: How to Buy the Right Fluid

Specification first, then brand and price

Technical fluids are chosen by the carmaker's approval, not by colour. Put the wrong coolant or brake fluid in, and you can damage the system. So the most important things in your request are: which fluid, which standard and which car. The owner's manual or the reservoir cap usually shows the specification you need.

Main fluids and their standards

  • Coolant (antifreeze) — classes G11, G12, G12+, G13. Colour does not guarantee compatibility, and different types cannot always be mixed.
  • Brake fluid — DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5.1. Silicone-based DOT 5 is not mixed with the others.
  • AdBlue — a urea solution for diesel cars, made to the ISO 22241 standard.
  • Power steering fluid — depends on the car: ATF or a special fluid.
  • Windscreen washer fluid — ordinary, or with a lower freezing point for cold regions and harsh winters.
  • Distilled water — for batteries and for diluting concentrate.

Concentrate or ready-mixed

Concentrate is cheaper per litre, but you dilute it with distilled water, and the freezing point depends on the ratio. Ready-mixed coolant is more convenient: pour it in and go. For workshops and fleets, larger packs make sense: cans, drums or IBC tanks.

What to put in your request

  • Which fluid — coolant, brake fluid, AdBlue, power steering fluid, washer fluid, distilled water;
  • Specification — for example G12+ or DOT 4;
  • Concentrate or ready-mixed;
  • Volume and quantity — 5 L, a few cans, a drum;
  • Make and model of the car, so the seller can check the approval;
  • Brand, for example Hepu, Febi, Prestone, Castrol;
  • Wholesale or retail;
  • Delivery city and budget.

Example: “I need G12+ coolant concentrate, 5 L, for a Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI, preferably Hepu. Courier delivery to Montreal, budget up to $51.”

How to compare offers

Compare the price per litre of ready-to-use fluid, allowing for dilution. Check that the description names the approval you need, not just “fits most cars”. Look at the seal and the manufacturing date, especially for brake fluid, which absorbs moisture. A bad sign is an unbranded fluid with a suspiciously low price and no certificates. For AdBlue, ask how it was stored, since heat and freezing both spoil the solution. For washer fluid, state the season: summer and winter types are not interchangeable, and for cold places you need a freezing point below the lowest temperature you expect.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You write one request, and fluid sellers reply in the chat with brands, quantities and prices. Each seller sees where they stand among the offers, so they compete for your choice. Contacts stay hidden until you decide. More in How it works.

For car maintenance, also look at engine oils and transmission oils.

Questions and answers

Can I mix different coolants?

Not always. Different classes (G11, G12, G13) have different chemistry, so it is best to use the one the carmaker recommends.

How do I find out which brake fluid I need?

Check the reservoir cap or the manual: it usually says DOT 4 or DOT 5.1. If you are not sure, write the car model in your request.

What is AdBlue and who needs it?

It is a urea solution for diesel cars with an exhaust cleaning system. Buy fluid that meets the ISO 22241 standard.

Can I order in bulk for a workshop?

Yes. Give the volume, pack type (cans, drums) and city in your request. Sellers will offer wholesale terms.
