Baby food: formula, cereals and purees with delivery
First the baby's age and needs, then the brand
Baby food is bought by stage, not by a pretty tin. Formulas have numbers: 1 for the youngest, 2 from about six months, 3 and up for older babies. Cereals, purees and juices are also labelled with the age from which they can be given. So always write in your request how many months old the baby is, and don't mix up the stages.
If the baby has an allergy, lactose intolerance, digestion problems or was born early, choosing a special formula is a job for the paediatrician. Don't pick one at random from reviews: the doctor will tell you the type, and you put the exact name in your request.
What to put in your request
- type of food — formula, cereal, puree, juice, snacks, baby water;
- age or stage — for example “from 6 months, formula 2”;
- special features — hypoallergenic, lactose-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, anti-reflux;
- brand or range — Nutrilon, NAN, Humana, HiPP and others;
- quantity and pack size — how many tins and of how many grams;
- expiry date — how much shelf life should be left;
- one-time or regular — for regular supply sellers may offer different terms;
- budget and delivery city.
Example: “I need 6 tins of 400 g Nutrilon Pepti formula, stage 1, enough for a month ahead. Expiry at least 6 months away. Budget up to $200, courier delivery to Vancouver.”
Expiry, packaging and storage
The most important thing in this category is the expiry date. For formula the baby finishes in a few weeks per tin, extra months of reserve are not needed, but you shouldn't take stock that expires in two weeks either. Ask directly what date is on the batch, and ask for a photo of the pack showing the date.
Check that the packaging is intact and how it was stored: formulas and cereals don't like heat and damp. If you order from a warehouse, ask how the goods were stored and transported. If the pack is imported, ask whether it has instructions in a language you read: you must be able to read the ingredients and preparation steps without guessing.
How to compare offers
Compare not the price of a tin but the price per kilogram of dry product. Tins of one brand come in 400 and 800 g, and the price difference isn't always proportional. Add delivery: for a few tins it noticeably changes the total. For regular buying, ask whether there is a discount on a standing order.
How it works in BlaBlaPrice
You write one request, and sellers of baby food reply in the chat: brand, pack size, date, price, delivery. BlaBlaPrice shows the best offer first, judged on what it contains, with reviews of the seller next to it. Your contacts stay hidden and are opened only to the seller you choose. Details are on the “How it works” page.
