CVT, Rollers and Belt for a Scooter: How to Buy at a Good Price
Why you need to replace it
The CVT is the scooter’s transmission, which smoothly changes the gear ratio. It wears out in a predictable way: the rollers become oval and flat, the belt stretches and cracks, and the sliding plate and bush wear loose. The signs are jerky starts, weaker acceleration, and noise or vibration. Often it is enough to replace the rollers and the belt, not the whole unit.
Engine and size matter more than the model name
Scooters with an identical-looking body can have different engines. So in your request give the engine code (for example GY6 150) and the capacity. For rollers the diameter, length and weight in grams matter, for example 16×13 and 7 g. For the belt it is the length and width. If you do not know the size, measure the old part or send a photo.
The weight of the rollers affects how the scooter accelerates: lighter ones give a livelier start but a lower top speed, heavier ones the opposite. You can discuss this with the seller.
What to put in your request
- which part — CVT kit, rollers, belt, clutch pulley, sliding plate, gear reducer;
- engine — for example GY6 150;
- scooter model — make and model, with the year;
- size — roller diameter and weight, belt length and width;
- stock or performance — a plain replacement or Malossi, Polini;
- original or aftermarket;
- condition — new or used;
- delivery city and budget.
Example: “I need new CVT rollers 16×13, 7 g each, a set of 6, and a belt for a scooter with a GY6 150 engine. Aftermarket, not performance. Delivery to Vancouver, budget up to $20.”
When comparing offers
Ask for the exact sizes of the roller and the belt, because “for GY6” can mean several variants. Check whether the rollers are sold singly or as a set, and whether grease and washers are in the price. Cheap rollers made of soft plastic wear down quickly, so ask about the material. On a gear reducer (the final drive), check that oil has been filled and that there is no play in the gears, if the part is used.
On BlaBlaPrice everything is simpler: you describe the scooter and the part, and parts sellers write in the chat with a price and terms. They can see where their offer stands, so they often cut the price or offer better terms. The site shows the best-value one first. Only the seller you choose sees your contacts.
Mistakes to avoid
Replacing only the rollers when the belt has already cracked: the parts wear out together. Buying a belt by length without the width. Fitting a performance CVT without asking the seller whether the carburettor needs different settings afterwards. For neighbouring parts, see the sections engine parts and drive and running gear.
