Harvest work abroad: how to find seasonal workers
The season decides everything
Farm work runs on tight dates. Strawberries ripen in some weeks, apples and vegetables in others, while greenhouses, mushroom farms and packing sheds run for longer. So the crop, the country and the start date come first in your request: they decide who can arrive on time.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You, the employer, write a request in your own words. The site picks the category itself. The request is checked: no ads or contacts in the text, with hints about the details candidates are missing. Interested people reply in chat: who they are, whether they travel as a couple or a group, and when they can leave. The phone number stays hidden, and only the candidate you choose gets your contacts. A request stays live for 7 days and can be extended. More on the How it works page.
What to put in the job post
- Country and the farm or region.
- Crop — strawberries, apples, vegetables, mushrooms, greenhouse.
- Duration — length of the contract and the start date, for example 3 months from May.
- Pay — per hour, per kilogram or per crate, and in which currency.
- Schedule — hours a day and days a week.
- Accommodation — free or paid, the cost, meals.
- Requirements — age, whether you accept couples and groups.
- Documents — passport, visa, permit, and who arranges them.
- Language — often none is needed.
Example: “Poland, farm near Lublin, strawberry picking for 3 months from May. $9.13 per hour, 10 hours, 6 days a week. Free accommodation, couples and groups from 18 years welcome. Valid passport needed, language not required.”
Hourly pay or pay by weight
There are two ways to pay: by the hour or by the weight picked (piece rate). Hourly pay is predictable; piece rate depends on speed and yield, so candidates often ask what a worker really earns in a day. Give honest figures from last season. Also say whether there is a minimum hourly rate.
Describe daily life: how many people share a room, whether there is a kitchen, how people get to the field and who pays for travel. Documents and permits depend on the country and the time of year, so check official sources. Never charge workers a fee just for getting the job.
Common mistakes
Not giving the start date. Staying silent about the cost of accommodation. Promising high earnings without explaining. For related jobs, there are packers and general labourers.
