Hire loaders: unloading, lifting furniture, clearing construction waste
Hands without a vehicle: when it pays off
You need loaders when you already have a vehicle or your goods have arrived: unloading a truck of tiles, carrying cement bags up to the fifth floor, taking a fridge indoors, moving office furniture. Doing it yourself takes long, and hurting your back is a real risk.
On BlaBlaPrice you describe the job once, and crews reply with offers in the chat: how many people, what rate, when they can come. Each crew can see where its offer ranks and can lower the price or improve the terms. It is free for the customer.
What the rate depends on
Most loaders charge per hour per person, often with a minimum booking. Then come other factors: weight and number of items, whether there is a lift, the distance from the vehicle to the spot, and the type of load. Bags of 25 kilograms, bricks and tiles are tiring in a different way from furniture or home appliances.
Pianos, safes and big wardrobes have a separate price, because they need experience and special straps. If there is a goods lift, ask about its size, as that decides whether the load will fit. Carrying things up the stairs to high floors usually costs more.
What to put in your request
- What to do — unload a vehicle, carry in furniture, lift to a floor, move things inside a building.
- Load — furniture, appliances, bagged building materials, heavy items.
- Volume — tonnes, pallets, number of bags or items.
- Number of loaders — how many people you need.
- Floor — which floor the work is on and whether there is a lift, goods or ordinary.
- Duration — roughly how many hours.
- City and area — where the site is.
- Date and time — when you need them.
- Vehicle — whether you need a vehicle too.
- Budget — if you want to name one.
Example: “Toronto: I need a truck of tiles unloaded today at 2 pm, about 20 tonnes, 3 loaders for 6–7 hours. Carrying up to the 7th floor, there is a goods lift. Budget up to $14 per person.”
How to compare crews
Bring the prices to one unit: price per hour per person. Ask whether there is a minimum booking and whether travel time is paid. Find out whether the loaders have their own straps, trolleys and crates. For fragile and expensive items, ask who is responsible for any damage.
Reviews of providers help you tell a crew that arrives on time from one that lets you down. A typical problem with casual ads: two people turn up instead of three, but the price is still charged for three. Agree the number of people in the chat beforehand.
How to organise the work
Clear the entrance and prepare the way: remove everything unnecessary from the doorways, and measure the stairwells and doors. Take furniture apart beforehand if you are not leaving that to the professionals. Agree whether you pay by the hour actually worked or for the whole job.
If you also need a vehicle, see freight transport, and for a full job with packing there is home and office relocation. A selection of related services is in the “Transport & delivery” section.
