Municipal vehicles: road sweepers, water sprinklers, snow clearers
For the season and for the job
Municipal vehicles are a set of specialised machines for a city or a campus. A road sweeper collects dust and litter from roads, a water sprinkler washes streets and waters green areas, and a snow clearer keeps roads open in winter in the north and the hills. A multi-purpose utility tractor with interchangeable equipment replaces several machines for a small estate.
The season sets the timing. Sweeping and sprinkling are best booked before summer, and snow clearing, where it is needed, before the winter starts.
Buy or hire with a driver
For a housing society, a parking area or a shopping centre where cleaning is needed several times a month, hiring a machine with a driver is cheaper than owning one. Buying is worth it if the season is long, the volume is large, and you have a driver and a place to keep the machine. You can also discuss a seasonal contract with a fixed rate.
What to put in your request
- Type of machine — sweeper, sprinkler, snow clearer, utility tractor.
- Buy or hire — with or without a driver.
- Scope of work — for example sweeping a parking area of 3,000 m².
- Attachments — blade, brush, spreader, sprayer.
- Chassis — tractor-based, truck-based.
- City and access conditions.
- Period — a single visit or a whole season.
- Year, condition, budget.
Example: “I need sweeping of a 3,000 m² parking area in Ottawa: hire of a sweeper with a driver for a season, with a visit when I call. Please state the rate per visit and per season.”
How to search through BlaBlaPrice
You write a request once, and owners and sellers of municipal vehicles reply in the chat: the machine, the terms, the price or what it depends on. Each of them sees where their offer ranks and what the offers above theirs give, so they compete on terms. The system shows the best one first, judged on what is offered, with reviews of the seller next to it. Contacts are hidden and open only to the one you choose. Read more on the “How it works” page.
How to compare offers
- Whether the driver, fuel and any consumables are in the price.
- How fast the machine can come after you call, and whether a response time is agreed.
- The working width of the blade or brush, because the cleaning time depends on it.
- Whether you get a record of the work done, if a housing society or a company needs one.
When buying used, check the hydraulics of the attachment, the state of the brushes and blade, the pump of the water tank and the chassis. For big earthworks, look at bulldozers and tractors or loaders, and find all the other machines in the “Heavy equipment” section.
What to agree in the contract
For seasonal services, write in the contract how soon the machine arrives after a call, how many times a day the area is cleaned, and how the finished work is confirmed. Clarify who is responsible for damage to kerbs and surfaces. If the area is large, you can split the work into sections and compare prices.
