Seat heaters and car massagers: how to buy and fit them well

Heated cover or built-in heating

There are two very different routes. A heated seat cover just lies on the seat and plugs into the car socket: cheap and quick, but the cable shows and the seating changes a little. A built-in kit is fitted under the upholstery: the heating elements go under the cover and the switch is brought out to the panel. It looks factory-made, but the seat has to be taken apart, so the price includes the fitter’s work.

Massagers are similar: a cover with motors runs on 12 V, and there are big 230 V versions for the home. Don’t mix them up in your request.

What affects the price

  • Type: a built-in kit with fitting is usually dearer than a cover.
  • Number of seats: only the front, or the rear bench as well.
  • Heating modes and a timer, and ventilation in more complex models.
  • Material: velour, leatherette, fabric — they differ in feel and durability.
  • For a particular car model you sometimes need special elements shaped for the seat.

What to put in your request

  • What you need — a cover, built-in heating, a massage cover or a massager;
  • Number of seats — two front, all five or only the driver’s;
  • Car model and year, if exact fitting is needed;
  • Installation — fitted under the upholstery or by yourself;
  • Power — 12 V, 24 V or 230 V;
  • Functions — heat levels, timer, massage modes;
  • Material, city and budget.

Example: “I need built-in heating for the two front seats of a 2018 Renault Duster, with two heat modes, fitted under the factory fabric. Power 12 V. Tuen Mun, budget up to HK$390.”

What to watch when choosing

Ask the provider which elements they use: carbon fibre is usually more flexible and lasts longer than wire, but costs more. Check whether there is overheat protection and whether the connection goes through a fuse, not just a twisted joint into the wiring. This matters for safety: a poor connection can cause electrical trouble.

If the car has side airbags in the seats, ask the fitter how they handle them: work under the upholstery needs care. Ask for a warranty on the fitting, separate from the warranty on the product.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

It is enough to write one request: sellers and fitters in your city reply in the chat with the price, timing and fitting terms. The platform shows the offer with the best value first, and reviews are shown next to each one. Your phone isn’t sent to everyone: only the provider you choose sees it. More in “How it works”.

For cabin comfort you may also need car cushions or car mats, which are often bought together.

Questions and answers

Heated cover or built-in heating: which should I choose?

A cover is cheaper and goes on in a minute, but it is visible in the cabin. The built-in version looks factory-made, but needs fitting under the upholstery.

Can I fit seat heating myself?

If you have experience with electrics and taking seats apart, you can. Otherwise it is better to leave it to a fitter, so you don’t damage the wiring and upholstery.

Is heating safe for a car with airbags in the seats?

It depends on the model, so ask the fitter how they work with such seats. It is better to clear the details before the work starts.

How do I state my car so the right kit is chosen?

Write the make, model and year, and how many seats you want to equip. Sellers will clarify the rest in the chat.
