How to hire a construction worker: one person or a whole crew
All-rounder or a specialist
“Construction worker” is a broad term. Some people do general building work: masonry, concrete, demolition, helper tasks. Others have a narrow trade, such as plastering, tiling or roofing. If you know for sure that you need one trade, look in that category. If the site is complex and you need hands at different stages, an all-round construction worker is a good fit.
What to include in the vacancy
- Type of work — masonry, concrete work, demolition, fitting, site preparation.
- Pay — per day, per hour, per volume of work or per project, for example RM 45 a day.
- Work location — city and area, or the town or village.
- Schedule — for example, six days a week, 8 am to 6 pm.
- Experience — in years, or “no experience, we will train”.
- Type of employment — permanent, one site, long stints away from home, seasonal.
- One person or a crew — how many people you need.
- Accommodation — whether you provide a place to stay and meals.
Example request

How to find people through BlaBlaPrice
Instead of scrolling through ads, you write your request once. It is checked, ads and contact details are removed from the text, and you are prompted to add the important details. Then candidates in your area reply in the chat: who they are, what they can do, when they can start and what they want per day. BlaBlaPrice shows the strongest replies first, and candidates' reviews are visible next to them. Your phone number stays hidden, and you pay nothing for the search. More on the page “How it works”.
Tips to avoid mistakes
Ask candidates which tools and equipment they bring: do they have their own hammer drill, spirit levels, string line, a mixer for mortar?
Break the site into stages and name the main one: foundation, structure, roof or interior work. This decides who to hire: masons are needed for an aerated-block structure, finishers for interior work, and an “all-rounder” only partly replaces a specialist.
Agree on a trial day: in a few hours you can see how a person handles tools and keeps the site tidy. State clearly who provides tools and safety gear. Don't promise “high earnings”; give the rate and the payment rules, because a vague promise puts off experienced people.
If you only need extra hands, look for a general labourer. To run the team you need a site foreman.
