Nurse at home: drips, injections, dressings and patient care

When you need a nurse at home

Most often people look for one for a course of injections or drips prescribed by a doctor, dressings after surgery, care of a bedridden patient, blood collection at home, catheter care or prevention of bedsores. This is work with someone who cannot or should not travel to hospital, so both qualification and attitude matter.

A nurse carries out the doctor’s prescription and does not make a diagnosis. The doctor must decide the dosage, the medicines and the number of procedures. If there is no prescription, see the doctor first.

What to include in your request

  • Procedure — drip, intramuscular or intravenous injections, dressing, catheter, blood collection, bedsore care.
  • Number and schedule — for how many days and how often, for example 10 days, daily at 9:00.
  • Prescription and medicines — whether there is a doctor’s prescription, whose medicines they are.
  • Patient — age and condition: bedridden, after surgery, elderly.
  • Consumables — drip sets, syringes, wipes: yours or the nurse’s.
  • When — from which day.
  • Address or area.
  • Qualification — for example, experience in intensive care.
  • Budget per visit, if you want to state it.

Example: “I need a nurse for drips at home, 10 days, daily at 9:00. I have the doctor’s prescription and the medicines, and the nurse will bring the sets and syringes. The patient is bedridden, my grandmother, 85. Ipoh, from Monday. Up to RM 25 per visit.”

How to compare offers

A price per visit without details says little. Ask whether materials are included, whether weekend or early-morning visits cost differently, and whether there is a discount for a full course. For bedridden patients, experience of care matters, so ask about it in detail.

  • Whether the nurse has medical training and documents: ask directly.
  • How she handles complications, for example an allergic reaction: a good professional knows what to do and does not hesitate to call an ambulance.
  • Whether the same nurse will come every time, so the person does not keep changing.

Where not to save money

Do not prescribe medicines for yourself, or ask a nurse to give something “on a friend’s advice”. Sterility and correct technique are about health. Be open about any allergies and illnesses the patient has.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You write your request once, and nurses in your area reply in chat with offers including price and timing. They see where they stand among the others and can improve their terms. BlaBlaPrice shows the best-value offer first, reviews are visible alongside, and your phone number stays hidden until you choose a professional. More on “How it works”. Questions and answers

Do I need a doctor’s prescription?

For drips and injections, yes: the doctor decides the medicine and dose. A nurse carries out the prescription and does not invent treatment.

Who buys the drip sets and syringes?

Agree in advance: either the nurse brings them and they are in the price, or you buy them. State it in your request.

Can I book a nurse for several days in a row?

Yes, state the number of days and the time. Nurses reply with a price per visit or for the whole course.

What if the patient feels worse during a procedure?

Call an ambulance immediately. You can agree this with the nurse beforehand.
