Industrial equipment: how to buy a machine or press at a good price

The condition of a machine matters more than the nameplate

When you buy industrial equipment, especially used, you pay for its real technical condition, not for the make. A centre lathe can be in perfect shape after an overhaul, or it can have worn guideways and backlash. So the question “what has happened to it” matters more than “how much does it cost”.

Describe this in the request, and sellers on BlaBlaPrice will offer options with their prices themselves. You don't have to search for them on listing sites by hand.

What to put in your request

  • type of equipment — a lathe, milling machine or CNC machine, press, compressor, welding equipment, sawmill;
  • model, if you know it;
  • technical specifications — working dimensions, power, voltage, control system (for example, 1,000 mm between centres, three-phase);
  • condition — new or used, working or needing repair;
  • year of manufacture — exact or an acceptable range;
  • purpose — which material and process: metal or wood working;
  • delivery and installation with commissioning;
  • city and budget.

Example: “I need a centre lathe with 1,000 mm between centres, three-phase, used in working condition, made in 2000 or later. For metalworking, with delivery to George Town and commissioning. Budget up to RM 49,000.”

How to assess a used machine

  • Ask for a video of it working under load, not only photos at rest.
  • Ask about repairs and the replacement of the spindle, belt drives and electrics.
  • Check the geometric accuracy and whether there is a manual and the set of tooling: chucks, steady rests, slides.
  • If possible, inspect the machine in person or through a mechanic you know.

For CNC equipment, check the control unit, the software and that it is not locked.

Installation, foundation and power

Heavy equipment needs a prepared place: a foundation, levelling, a three-phase supply, and sometimes compressed air or ventilation. Find out beforehand what the price includes and what you will have to do. Count the freight vehicle and the crane for unloading separately, and check that the machine will pass through the workshop door and that the truck can reach it.

How to compare offers

Sellers reply in the chat: model, condition, price, set, delivery, installation. BlaBlaPrice compares the offers and shows the most useful one first, with reviews beside it. Sellers see where they stand among the others and can improve their terms.

Compare the full cost: the machine itself plus delivery, installation and tooling. A “cheaper” machine without its set often turns out dearer. A common mistake is to buy without inspection and without checking the dimensions on site. For related needs there are refrigeration equipment, equipment for garages and car washes and laboratory equipment.

Questions and answers

How do I check a used machine before buying?

Watch a video of it working, find out about repairs, and check the geometry and completeness. If you can, inspect the machine in person.

Are delivery and commissioning included in the price?

Not always. State in the request that you need them, and sellers will write their terms separately.

What matters more: the year of manufacture or the condition?

Condition, but the year helps judge the availability of spare parts and service. Ask about both.

Can sellers see my phone number?

No, contacts are hidden and open only to the seller you choose.
