Kids' electric car: how to choose and buy at a good price

First age, then type and power

Kids' electric cars come as cars, jeeps, motorbikes, quad bikes, tractors and buggies. For children of 2–3 years a simple model with a slow speed and a parent remote is right, while older preschoolers like four-wheel-drive jeeps and two-seater versions more. Before choosing, check what weight the model is built for, because a two-seater can carry two children, while a simple one-seater may wear out fast.

Battery and motors

This is the heart of an electric car, and most of the price difference hides here. Voltage is most often 6, 12 or 24 V: the higher it is, the stronger the car usually is. The number of motors decides how well it copes with rough ground: one motor suits a flat yard, four suit an uneven dirt track. Ask how many minutes of driving a charge lasts and how long charging takes, and what a new battery costs.

The seller should say whether the model works with an ordinary charger or whether one is included.

What to put in your request

  • type — car, off-roader, motorbike, quad bike, tractor;
  • child's age, for example 3–5 years;
  • number of seats — one or two;
  • battery and motors — voltage, number of motors, run time;
  • features — parent remote, EVA wheels, leatherette seat, MP3, lights, soft start;
  • model, if you have one in mind;
  • new or used, city and budget.

Example: “I'm looking for a new kids' electric off-roader for a 4-year-old, 12 V, 4 motors, parent remote and EVA wheels. Budget up to RM 1,200, pickup or delivery to George Town.”

Remote, wheels and safety

A parent remote lets you stop the car if there is danger, so it is especially useful for toddlers. EVA wheels are quieter and softer than plastic ones and grip better, but check them in the specification first. A soft start reduces the jerk, and seat belts suit a faster ride. It is best to check all this in the seller's description.

New or used and how to compare offers

A used electric car is fine if the battery is alive. Ask for a video of it running and a photo of the battery compartment, and ask the seller to show how the remote works. Compare new models by voltage, number of motors, wheels and what is included. A bulky box will affect delivery, so ask what it costs and whether there is room for it: it is a large item.

Also ask about the warranty and who takes claims if something breaks.

How it works in BlaBlaPrice

You write one request and sellers reply in the chat: model, price, what is included, delivery. BlaBlaPrice shows the best offer first, judged on what it contains, with reviews of the seller next to it. Contacts are hidden and opened only to the one you choose. Details are on the “How it works” page.

Questions and answers

Which battery voltage should I choose?

For small children and a flat yard 6 or 12 V is enough, for older children and uneven ground people often take 12 or 24 V. Write the age and where you will drive, and sellers will advise.

Can I control the electric car by remote?

Yes, many models have a parent remote that overrides the child's control. Put it in the request as a separate requirement.

Is it worth taking a used electric car?

It can be, if the battery holds a charge and the motors and remote work. Ask for a video of it running and find out what a new battery would cost.

How long does a request stay active on BlaBlaPrice?

Seven days, and it can be extended. You can edit the request while you wait for replies.
