How to find a merchandiser: product display in shops

What a merchandiser does in a shop

A merchandiser makes sure your product is visible and on the shelf: arranges it by the planogram, restocks, removes damaged items and watches price tags and expiry dates. Their work decides whether a customer finds the product, and this directly affects sales.

Decide at once how many outlets they visit in a day. Eight shops close together make an easy route; eight at opposite ends of the city is a full day's work and needs transport.

How to search on BlaBlaPrice

You write one job request in your own words, and candidates answer in chat: where they live, what they can do, when they are ready to start and what pay suits them. You don't need to post on several sites and answer calls. Before it is shown, the request is checked: no ads and no contact details in the text.

Your phone is hidden and goes only to the chosen candidate. The post is active for 7 days and can be extended. It is free for the employer, and you can read more on how it works.

What to put in the job post

  • Outlets — which chains and how many shops a day, for example 8 supermarkets;
  • Products — drinks, dairy, household cleaners, non-food;
  • Workplace — city and area, so the candidate can judge the commute;
  • Hours — for example 8 to 2, six days a week;
  • Pay — per month, per visit or per shop;
  • Transport — whether travel is reimbursed, whether a bike is needed;
  • Terms and experience — part-time or permanent, whether experience is needed.

Example: “Merchandiser needed for drinks, Kuala Lumpur. Round of 8 supermarkets a day, 8 to 2, six days a week. Pay RM 780 a month, travel reimbursed, part-time arrangement. No experience needed, we train.”

How to compare replies

For this role, experience is often less important than responsibility: will the person turn up in the morning, photograph the shelf and send the report? Ask whether the candidate has used reporting apps, and agree on the format of photo reports.

Clarify the pay for several outlets: do you count the travel time between them? Clear route planning and clear payment cut staff turnover, which this job is known for.

Say how checks are done too: a photo report from each outlet, a supervisor's check or feedback from the shop manager. Candidates agree faster when the rules are clear in advance.

Questions and answers

Does a merchandiser need experience?

Often not, the main things are responsibility and punctuality. You can write “no experience needed, we train” in the post and describe how the training goes.

How do I count pay for several shops?

You can pay a fixed monthly sum or pay for every outlet visited. Clarify whether the travel between shops is included in the calculation.

Should I reimburse travel?

It depends on the route: when outlets are far apart, reimbursement is needed and candidates expect it. Mention it in the post.

Does the employer pay for posting?

No, it is free for the employer. The candidate's contacts open when you choose them.
