Tyres for Motorcycles, Scooters and Quad Bikes: Buy Smart
Size and position on the bike
A motorcycle tyre size is written like this: 180/55 ZR17 (width, profile, rim diameter) or 130/70-12 for a scooter. The front and rear tyres are different, so a “pair” is bought for specific axles. The right size and indexes are in the motorcycle's manual or on the old tyre. A wider tyre fitted without checking can rub on the swingarm or the mudguard.
What the tyre is for: use decides the tread
- Road and sport. Soft rubber and a smooth tread for grip on tarmac. Sport tyres last less.
- Touring. A harder compound, more mileage, comfort on long rides.
- Enduro and motocross. Pronounced knobs for soil. A 50/50 type combines tarmac and dirt.
- Scooter. Small diameters of 10–14 inches; there are separate models for rain.
Tubed or tubeless
The type is set by the rim: spoked wheels take tubed tyres, alloy ones more often take tubeless. A tubeless tyre cannot be fitted without a tube on the wrong rim, so confirm this in your request. The tube must also match the tyre size.
Freshness of the rubber and how to compare
A motorcycle tyre “ages” even in a warehouse, so find out the year of manufacture from the DOT code. For a motorcycle it is best to take tyres not older than 2–3 years. When comparing offers, look for the same model or class, the price per tyre or per pair, whether fitting is included, and delivery. For used tyres, ask about the tread and whether there are old patches.
On BlaBlaPrice, motorcycle tyre sellers reply to your request in the chat, so you do not have to dig through shops and online groups. They see where they stand among the others and can improve their terms, so the price is often better. Contacts stay hidden until you choose a seller. Also ask whether fitting and balancing are included: on a motorcycle this is a separate service, and not every workshop offers it. Details are on the How it works page.
