Psychologist online or in person: how to find the right specialist
Why you are looking for a psychologist
The topic decides who you need. Anxiety, burnout, loss, difficult relationships or a child's behaviour are handled by different specialists, and their approaches differ too. A psychologist offers counselling and helps you understand your situation and resources. If there is a diagnosis, you need medicines, or the condition is severe, you need a psychiatrist, so don't hesitate to see one as well.
If the situation is critical (thoughts of self-harm, an acute crisis), don't wait for offers: seek emergency help or call a helpline.
What to put in your request
- Topic — anxiety, relationships, grief, burnout, a child's behaviour. A few words are enough, no details needed.
- Format — individual, couples, family or group.
- Online or in person.
- Client — an adult, teenager, child or couple, with the age.
- Number of sessions — a single consultation or a course, for example once a week.
- Specialist's experience — a clinical psychologist, experience with your topic.
- Therapy method — cognitive behavioural, Gestalt, EMDR, if you have a preference.
- Schedule and city for in-person meetings.
- Budget per session.
Example: “I'm looking for a psychologist for individual work on anxiety after moving cities. Online, CBT, once a week, evenings after 7 pm. A clinical psychologist preferred. Budget up to RM 49 per session.”
How to compare offers
The price per session is only part of it. Look at education and specialisation, session length, cancellation rules and whether there is a trial consultation. In psychology, "chemistry" matters: you should feel comfortable with the specialist, so it is normal to try several. If a specialist does not promise a "quick cure", that is usually a good sign.
- Method and approach: they explain in simple words how they will work.
- Working principles: confidentiality, boundaries, how often you meet.
- Experience with your topic or the client's age.
Common mistakes
People expect the psychologist to give advice on "what to do" instead of helping them find their own solution. They quit therapy after two sessions when it becomes uncomfortable. They choose only by the lowest price. For a child or teenager, look for a specialist who works with that age and check whether the parents need to take part.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You describe your request once, and psychologists reply with offers in the chat: approach, price per session, free slots. They see their position among the others, so they can improve their terms. BlaBlaPrice shows the best-value offer first, reviews appear alongside, and contacts stay hidden until you choose a specialist. Read more on “How it works”.
