Pool and beach need different trunks
Beach shorts and training trunks for the pool are made of different fabrics. Chlorinated water quickly “eats” ordinary nylon with elastane: the fabric goes dull, stretches and becomes see-through. For regular swimming look for chlorine-resistant fabric, usually polyester or polyester with elastane, which keeps its shape even after a hundred sessions.
For the beach you can pick quick-drying swim shorts. But for lap swimming many pools require close-fitting styles, so check your pool's rules in advance.
After the pool, don't leave wet trunks in your bag: the chlorine keeps working. Rinse them in fresh water, don't wring them out, and don't dry them on a heater or in direct sun, because heat destroys elastane. That way one pair lasts much longer, which changes the real price a lot.
One more thing to know: many trunks look the same from outside, but the seams and the inner lining differ. For long training sessions choose flat seams that don't rub and a drawcord or waistband that holds firmly through starts and turns.
The cut depends on the purpose
- Briefs – the classic sports model for swimming and competitions, with minimal water resistance;
- Boxers and jammers – longer, covering the thighs; jammers are chosen for training and races;
- Swim shorts – looser, for the beach and leisure, with an inner mesh lining;

How to compare offers
Check the fabric content on the label and in the photos. Ask whether the item is original or a replica if you want a particular brand, and whether you can return it if the size is wrong. Size charts differ between brands, so go by measurements in centimetres, not by the letter.
