Tipper truck: buy one or book the transport of loose loads
Buy a tipper truck or hire one
A tipper truck is needed by those who carry crushed stone, sand, soil, grain or construction debris. If you move a load a few times a season, it is often simpler to book a service with a driver and pay per trip or per hour. Your own machine is justified when the work is constant and you can cover taxes, repairs and idle time.
Say right away what you are looking for: a purchase, or hire with a driver. Sellers and transporters are different people, so it is better not to mix buying and booking trips in one request. If the date of the trip is flexible, say so: transporters may offer a better day.
What to look at in a tipper
- Load capacity and wheel layout: 4×2 for roads, 6×4 or 8×4 for heavy loads, all-wheel drive for quarries and rough ground.
- Type of body: standard, heated, or a “bucket” type for crushed stone. Volume in m³ matters for light loads, tonnage for dense ones.
- Unloading: rear or side, depending on the site.
- The condition of the frame, the lift cylinder and rust on the body. These are what turn a good-looking price into an expensive repair.
- The engine and its emission standard, which can affect where you may run the truck.
What to put in your request
- buy or hire — with or without a driver;
- load capacity — for example 25 tonnes;
- what to carry and how much: crushed stone, 20 m³;
- city and route, and for hire the number of trips or days;
- make — for example Volvo, Scania or Mercedes-Benz;
- wheel layout;
- condition, year, mileage;
- budget, if you want to state it.
Example: “I need a used 25-tonne tipper, 6×4, from Volvo or Scania, not older than 2012, up to 400,000 km, no investment needed. Ipoh, I want to buy, budget up to RM 190,000.”
How to compare the answers
If you are buying, compare by mileage, year, condition of the body, papers and service history. Ask for photos of the frame and the cab and a video of the body being raised. Do not trust an odometer reading without confirmation: compare it with the state of the pedals and the suspension. Find out whether the truck is properly registered, in whose name, and whether there is a loan on it.
If you hire with a driver, ask what the rate is for: per hour, per trip or per tonne. Clarify whether idle time while loading is included, whether the transporter pays for fuel and whether he can give you the papers for the load.
How it works here
You write one request, and sellers and transporters reply with offers that have a price and terms. The system compares them and shows the best one first, judged on what is offered, and sellers see their place and can improve their terms. Your phone is hidden, and it is free for the buyer.
For earthwork next to a tipper you will need excavators, for loading forklifts and loaders, and for large building sites construction machinery.
