Drones & accessories: say what exactly you’re looking for

Quadcopters and FPV drones: how to choose and buy well

Filming or flying fast: two different worlds

The word “drone” hides two different things. A filming quadcopter is bought for its camera: stabilisation, video quality, automatic flight modes. An FPV drone is built or bought for fast flying in goggles, where the motors, frame and radio system matter. A mistake in the type is expensive, so start by answering what you plan to do.

This section has four subcategories. Ready-made drones for photo and video are quadcopters, and everything for them (batteries, propellers, ND filters, cases, charging stations) is drone accessories. Racing and freestyle models, ready to fly or as kits, are FPV drones. And motors, flight controllers, speed controllers, frames, video transmitters and antennas you will find in FPV drone parts.

How searching through BlaBlaPrice works

You describe the request in your own words: what you need, what for and in which city. The request is checked, and you are told what details are missing. Sellers send offers in the chat: model, kit, price, warranty, delivery. They can see where they stand among the others and adjust their terms, so a better offer turns up more often. Your phone stays hidden. The explanation is on the “How it works” page.

What to put in your request

  • Purpose — video shooting, mapping, racing, freestyle, learning.
  • For a quadcopter — sensor size and video resolution (for example 4K), flight time, weight, signal range, obstacle sensors.
  • For FPV — frame size in inches (3, 5, 7), type of radio system, analogue or digital video system, goggles.
  • Kit — how many batteries, whether there is a case, a controller, a charger.
  • Condition — new or second-hand, and for second-hand the number of flights.
  • City, delivery, budget, if you want to state it.

Example: “Looking for a quadcopter under 250 g for travel video, camera from 4K, flight time from 30 minutes, I need a kit with three batteries and a case. Karachi, new equipment with warranty. Budget up to Rs 230,000.”

How to compare offers

One drone model comes in two or three kits: basic and extended, with extra batteries and a case. The price difference is usually exactly there, so compare identical kits. For a used drone, ask about the battery condition and the number of charge cycles, signs of crashes, the working of all cameras and sensors, and ask for a flight video. For FPV parts, check compatibility: motor size, speed controller voltage, controller mounting.

Consider weight too: light models are handy for travel, but hold worse in wind. Also ask about the warranty and service, since repairing a camera or gimbal is one of the costliest items.

The price of a drone depends on the camera and stabilisation, flight time, range and reliability of the link, and the obstacle avoidance system. For FPV you add the cost of goggles, a controller and a charger, which are often bought separately.

Common mistakes

Buying one drone with no spare batteries: one charge gives only a few dozen minutes of flight, so you will not fly long without spares. Not finding out the local flying rules and no-fly zones. Buying parts of different standards that do not fit together. Choosing a weak camera for longer flight, or the reverse. A beginner is often better off with a ready FPV kit than building everything from separate parts.

Questions and answers

Which drone should I get to start with?

For filming, choose a compact quadcopter with a stabilised camera and a spare battery. For FPV, it is better to start with a ready kit rather than build one yourself.

Can I buy just batteries or motors?

Yes, state the drone model and the part you need in the request. Sellers will write what fits and give the price and availability.

What should I check on a used quadcopter?

The battery condition and cycles, no signs of crashes, and the working of the camera, gimbal and sensors. Ask for a flight video.

Can all sellers see my phone number?

No, contacts are hidden. You pass them only to the one you choose.
