How to find a room attendant for a hotel, resort or hostel
The number of rooms decides everything
A room attendant who cleans 8 rooms a shift and one who cleans 14 do different amounts of work. So the key figure in the request is how many rooms and which kinds: standard, suite, with a kitchenette. Add whether they must also change linen, wash it or send it to a laundry.
For resorts and seasonal places, accommodation is often more important than pay. If you have a room for staff, say so at once: such listings get more replies.
What to put in your request
- Type of place — hotel, resort, hostel, serviced apartments.
- Rooms per shift — for example, 14 rooms.
- Place of work — city or resort area.
- Schedule — 2-on-2-off, 5-on-2-off, morning guest check-out, weekends.
- Salary — pay per shift, for example Rs 2,000 quality bonuses.
- Employment — formal contract, seasonal, permanent.
- Experience — none, or a minimum period.
- Accommodation — whether a room is provided, whether meals are included.

What to agree in advance
Cleanliness standards are easiest to explain on site, so offer the candidate a short trial period. Say who provides supplies and equipment, whether a uniform is needed and what happens if a guest finds shortcomings. Discuss separately the guests' lost property: how to record it and whom to hand it to.
For a season, clarify the dates: from which month to which, and whether the person can leave early. For people coming from another city, it matters whether the travel is paid and who arranges their accommodation on the first day.
Explain the order of cleaning: start by stripping the linen, then the bathroom, then the floor and small details. An experienced attendant needs only a checklist, a new one needs a demonstration in one room. Say also who inspects the room after cleaning, the administrator or a head housekeeper, and against which points.
