How to find a storekeeper for a warehouse: records, receiving, software
A storekeeper is responsible for what you can't see
A good storekeeper means order in the warehouse, accurate stock and no “black holes” at stocktaking. A bad one means shortages that show up half a year later. So honesty and accuracy matter here no less than experience.
State the type of warehouse at once: food, building materials, spare parts, clothing. Shelf life, storage conditions, manual or mechanised work and even the need for a health certificate depend on it.
A food warehouse adds its own requirements: shelf-life control, the first-in-first-out rule, temperature ranges and a health certificate. Spare parts or building materials are more about sizes, labelling and finding items quickly.
Also describe how many people work in the warehouse and whether the storekeeper has a partner during leave or sick days. This explains the workload and helps the candidate see the scale.
What to put in the job post
- Duties — receiving, placing, dispatch, stocktaking, keeping documents;
- Pay — salary, bonuses, whether there are fines;
- Place of work — city and area, for example the industrial zone of Karachi;
- Schedule — 5 days a week or shifts, hours;
- Type of warehouse — what is stored, the area, whether there are racks;
- Paperwork — formal employment, with responsibility for stock;
- Experience — as a storekeeper, with similar goods;
- Software — inventory software or another warehouse system.
Example: “Karachi. Storekeeper needed for a food warehouse: receiving, dispatch, stocktaking. Inventory software, 1+ year of experience, 5 days a week, 8 to 5, formal employment with responsibility for stock. Salary Rs 60,000 a month.”
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You create a request on the home page, the site checks it and tells you what is missing. Storekeepers from your region reply in chat: they tell you about previous warehouses, software and expectations. Contacts open only to the chosen one, so nobody calls you without an invitation. Read about the principle on the How it works page.
How to assess a candidate
Ask how many items there were in the previous warehouse, how stocktaking went and what shortages occurred. Ask him to explain how he receives goods by quantity and quality and what he does about differences from the invoice.
Check his knowledge of the software: can he do receipts, transfers and write-offs? Agree in advance on responsibility for stock, the probation period and the stocktaking routine, so there are no disputes later.
