Cleaning services at a good price: from regular to deep cleaning

First decide the type of cleaning

Almost everything depends on the type of cleaning you need: the time, the size of the team, the products and the price. Regular cleaning means floors, dust, the bathroom and the kitchen. Deep cleaning covers what is normally left alone: cabinet fronts, the hob, vents, skirting boards. Post-renovation cleaning and window cleaning are separate jobs that need other tools.

If you're unsure, write when the place was last cleaned thoroughly, and the providers will tell you which format you need.

How to book cleaning through BlaBlaPrice

Instead of searching for companies and hearing “from R 300, depends”, you write one request on BlaBlaPrice. Cleaning firms and independent professionals in your city reply with offers: what is included, the price, when they can come. Your phone number isn't shown, and not everyone calls you.

What to put in your request

  • Type of cleaning — regular, deep, post-renovation, windows only, office.
  • Area — in square feet, or the number of rooms.
  • Type of property — flat, house, office, shop; new build or an older flat.
  • How dirty it is — construction dust, grease, pet hair, not cleaned for a long time.
  • Extras — windows and balcony, oven, fridge, furniture, chandeliers, ironing.
  • City and locality, and the date or day.
  • Frequency — one-off or weekly.
  • Supplies — the provider's own or yours.
  • Budget, if you want to state one.

Example: “Deep cleaning of a two-bedroom flat of about 750 sq ft in a new building, Johannesburg. There are traces of construction dust; clean 5 windows, and the oven and fridge inside. On Saturday, the provider's own supplies. Budget up to R 820.”

How to compare offers

A price per hour and a price for the whole job are not the same thing. Ask how many people will come, for how many hours, and what happens if they overrun: an extra charge or finishing for free. Find out whether the price includes supplies, a vacuum cleaner, a steam cleaner and the water, and whether there is a redo guarantee if something is left dirty.

Providers can see where their offer stands and what those above them offer, so terms often improve. Reviews of each provider are shown next to the offer. Look at photos of past work too, and at whether the company works under a written agreement.

Common mistakes

The most common mistake is understating the area or not mentioning heavy dirt, and then being asked for an extra payment on the spot. The second is not agreeing on access: keys, the security gate, whether the owner will be there. The third is not checking whether there is anything fragile or valuable to put away in advance.

If a renovation has just finished, it is better to book post-renovation cleaning straight away. For regular upkeep see home and house cleaning, and for large windows window and facade cleaning. How the service works is described on the page How it works.

Questions and answers

How is deep cleaning different from regular cleaning?

Regular cleaning keeps things clean: floors, dust, bathroom, kitchen. Deep cleaning also covers hard-to-reach places and needs more time and supplies.

Do I need to buy the cleaning products myself?

Usually the cleaners bring their own products and equipment, but it is better to say so in your request. Then all offers are priced on the same terms.

What if some spots are still dirty after cleaning?

Ask about a redo guarantee beforehand and note the terms in the chat. Point out any problems straight after the cleaning.

How do I judge a provider I don't know?

Look at the reviews next to the offer, ask for examples of work and what the price includes. You open contacts only for the one you choose.
