Hostel or dorm bed: how to find one for travel, work or study
Who a dorm bed is for
A bed in a hostel or a shared flat is chosen by travellers, students, and workers and crews who need a roof for a week or a month. For a crew, it matters to get several beds in one room and a way to cook. For a traveller: a central location, safety of belongings and quiet sleep. For a student on a long stay: the monthly price and stable internet.
What to put in your request
- dates — check-in date and length: a night, a week, a month;
- area — the city, neighbourhood or a railway or metro station nearby;
- number of beds — how many you need;
- price per bed — per night or per month;
- room type — mixed or women only, how many beds in the room, a private room;
- who is moving in — workers, students, travellers;
- documents for reporting — an invoice or bank payment for the employer;
- facilities — kitchen, laundry, lockers, parking.
Example: “I need 4 beds for a work crew in Johannesburg, near Johannesburg railway station, for a month from Monday. A private room, with a kitchen and a washing machine. Payment by bank transfer against a tax invoice. Up to R 99 a night per bed.”
How to avoid a wrong choice
Ask how many people share the room, because it affects price, noise and privacy. For a long stay, a monthly price is usually agreed, and it comes out different from the nightly rate multiplied by thirty. Find out whether there is a locker with a lock, whether bedding is provided, whether cleaning is included and whether hot water is available without interruptions.
If the employer pays for the stay, say so in the request and ask whether the place can give an invoice and take payment by bank transfer. For crews, ask about the rules: quiet hours, guests, early-morning starts, a place for work clothes. When power cuts happen, it is important to have lights and a way to charge a phone. For a long stay, ask whether you can register your address if you need to. A common mistake is paying for a month ahead without seeing the conditions on the spot. It is better to move in for a few nights first and then extend.
How it works with BlaBlaPrice
You describe your need once, and hostels and owners reply in the chat: how many beds, price, terms, photos. The request is checked before it is shown, and BlaBlaPrice shows the best offer by content first. Owners see where they stand among the others and can improve their terms. Your phone is hidden until you choose whom to give it to. More: how it works.
