Maternity trousers and leggings: waistband, season, fabric
Leggings or trousers
Leggings are the base of a maternity wardrobe: they stretch, do not press and go with almost everything. Straight or tapered trousers are for the office, and warm brushed ones are for winter in cold regions and the mountains. Sporty ones with a high waistband are good for yoga and walks.
Through BlaBlaPrice you do not have to hunt through shops yourself. You write a request, and sellers reply in the chat with the price, the sizes in stock and delivery. It is free for buyers, and your phone number stays hidden.
What to look at in the waistband
A high knitted support band wraps the belly and supports it, but it is hot in summer. A low band under the belly looks neater in the early weeks, but may slip down later. An adjustable elastic with buttons or a drawstring lets you wear the trousers for longer.
The seam over the belly should be flat. Check that the waistband has no stiff padding, and find out how far it stretches.
What to put in your request
- style: leggings, straight, tapered, classic or sporty trousers;
- belly waistband: high support band, under-belly or adjustable;
- season: summer, in-between, or winter with brushed lining;
- size: your usual pre-pregnancy size, and your height;
- week of pregnancy;
- fabric: jersey, cotton, viscose, fleece;
- colour, condition and budget.
Example: “I need new black winter leggings with brushed lining and a high support waistband, size L, 30 weeks pregnant. Johannesburg, budget up to R 300 courier delivery.”
Fabric and season
Thick jersey with elastane does not show through or bag at the knees. Cheap thin fabric turns see-through over the belly and thighs. In winter, a brushed lining keeps you warmer than ordinary tights, but it may be too much in a heated office. In summer, look for cotton leggings or capris.
Check the length separately: average height often takes the standard length, while tall women ask for extra length. Ask for the inseam length.
Brushed leggings are best kept for two or three cold months and replaced with cotton capris in summer. The seam should be flat, with no rough ridge over the belly.
Comparing offers
Look at the fabric, the length and the way it is shipped. Check whether the price is for one pair or for two sets. BlaBlaPrice shows the best-value offer first, with reviews of the seller next to each offer. Sellers can see where they stand among the others and may improve their terms, so a set of several pairs often works out cheaper.
