Nanny jobs abroad: how to find a nanny for your family
Tell them about your family first
A nanny is not chosen by “experience” alone. It matters how many children there are and how old they are: a baby needs one set of skills, a schoolchild who must be taken to classes and helped with homework needs another. Also say whether the nanny will live with the family or come for a few hours, and whether she will speak a different language with the children.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You write one request in your own words. You don't need to choose a category. The request is checked: no ads or contacts in the text, with hints about missing details. Nannies reply in chat and tell you about their experience, languages and when they can start. The phone number stays hidden, and only the candidate you choose gets your contacts. A request stays live for 7 days and can be extended. A general description is on the How it works page.
What to put in the job post
- Children's ages — how many and how old, for example two children, aged 3 and 6.
- Duties — childcare, walks, homework, taking children to classes, light cleaning.
- Schedule — weekdays, live-in, evenings.
- Pay — per month or per hour, for example R 21,000 a month.
- Place of work — country and city.
- Paperwork — contract, a one-year au pair arrangement or another form.
- Language — for example, English B2.
- Experience — with small children, references.
Example: “Italy, Milan: a family needs a nanny for two children, aged 3 and 6. Live-in, weekdays, childcare, walks and help with homework. R 21,000 a month, English B2, experience with small children and references.”
How to choose a nanny
References matter more than a polished CV. Ask for contacts of previous families and talk to them. Hold a video call with the nanny and, if possible, arrange a meeting with the children. Ask about situations: what she does when a child cries, refuses to eat or falls ill. Check that she can give first aid.
Agree on rules: gadgets, walks, meals, who picks the child up from school. Say separately what household tasks are included: whether the nanny cooks only for the children or also cleans. The au pair format has its own official rules, which depend on the country, so check them in official sources.
Common mistakes
Hiding the real amount of work. Not stating days off and holidays. Not agreeing on the language used with the children. Similar jobs are in the sections for caregivers and cooks, if you need a wider household team.
