How to find a process engineer: food industry, process sheets, quality
A process engineer is responsible for the process
A process engineer designs and maintains the production process: process sheets, recipes, settings, material consumption norms and instructions for the shop floor. They control quality, look for the causes of defects, launch new products and optimise production. In the food industry this includes product safety requirements, and in engineering, machining routes and cutting settings. So the industry is the main detail in the post.
Education, experience and quality systems
A process engineer usually needs a relevant degree or diploma: food technology, mechanical engineering, chemistry. Ask the candidate about the processes they have run and the changes these brought. It helps to know the quality management systems at your company: HACCP in food, ISO or internal standards. Don't ask for what you don't use: a bar set too high scares off suitable candidates.
Say who the process engineer will work with: the production team, the lab, purchasing. If they are also responsible for raw material suppliers, state it separately, because the workload grows.
What to put in the job post
- Industry — confectionery, dairy, meat, chemicals, other;
- Duties — process sheets, quality control, new product development, raw material records;
- Education — relevant degree or diploma;
- Experience — how many years in similar production;
- Hours — for example a six-day week, 9:00 to 18:00;

How it works on BlaBlaPrice
Instead of posting on several sites, you describe the job once. The request is checked for ads and contact details in the text, and you get hints on what is missing. Candidates answer in chat: experience, industry, expected pay and joining date. Reviews help you compare. The phone and messenger stay hidden until you choose someone. More on how it works.
How to assess a candidate
Give a real task: how would they bring down the defect rate on your line, or write a process sheet for a new product? Ask how they work with the shop floor and the lab. A good process engineer can explain a process to operators in plain language.
