How to hire a security guard: supermarket, warehouse, gate checks
The site decides who you need
A supermarket guard deals with people, keeps order and prevents theft. A warehouse guard controls vehicle entry, checks vehicles and seals. At a restricted factory the guard checks passes. These are different tasks, so a request that just says “guard needed” gets weak replies.
Also decide who hires: your own business or a security agency. This affects the requirements for ID, uniform, equipment and the terms of appointment.
For a supermarket, also write whether the guard stands at the entrance, on the floor or near the CCTV, and whether there is a partner on the shift. A 24-hour duty is tiring, so say honestly whether the guard can rest or has to stay on their feet all the time. Candidates value honesty and are less likely to quit after the first week.
What to put in the job request
- Site — supermarket, warehouse, office, factory, residential complex;
- Pay — per 24-hour duty, per shift or per month;
- Location — city and address;
- Shifts — 24-hour duty then two days off, 12-hour shifts, night shifts;
- Duties — gate checks, patrolling the premises, CCTV monitoring, inspection;
- Terms — written appointment letter;
- Experience — in security, at similar sites;
- ID and documents — whether a guard licence or ID card is needed.
Example: “Cape Town, supermarket. Security guard needed: gate checks, patrolling the premises, working with CCTV. 24-hour duty followed by two days off, pay R 180 per duty, written appointment. Security experience and guard ID card required.”
How to search through BlaBlaPrice
You write your request on the home page in your own words. The site checks it, removes anything unnecessary and suggests what to add. Guards from your area reply in the chat with their experience and expectations. You compare and choose, and contacts open only to the one you choose. Details on the How it works page.
What to look for
Ask where they worked and why they left, how they act in conflict situations and in an emergency. A guard must be calm, alert and honest. Check references, and any documents and medical requirements your site has.
Agree on clear instructions: what the guard must do and must not do, whom to call, how to keep the log and how to hand over the shift. For legal questions on authority and the use of special equipment, it is better to check with the relevant security agency.
If a uniform and equipment are needed, clarify who provides them and who is responsible for keeping them safe.
