Men's socks: formal, thermal, trekking – prices from sellers

Socks are not as simple as they look

You need different socks for the office, for running and for a trek, not just “black ones”. Trekking socks, for example, have a reinforced heel and toe, move moisture away quickly and have seams that don't rub. Thin formal socks can't do any of that.

  • Formal – thin cotton with elastane, for a suit and dress shoes;
  • Sports – with arch support and breathable mesh; low and mid-length ones for running;
  • Thermal – for cold weather, made of wool or special yarn; they keep you warm and take sweat away;
  • Trekking – with reinforced zones, made of merino or synthetics;
  • Terry – warm and thick, for the cold and for work on your feet;
  • Tactical – hard-wearing, often with an extra-strong heel.

Material and height

Pure cotton is comfortable, but it dries slowly and wears out quickly at the heels, so good socks add polyamide or elastane. Merino wool does not smell and keeps you warm; bamboo is soft. The height depends on your shoes: short “no-show” socks stay hidden in sneakers, mid-length ones go with everyday shoes, and high ones go with boots.

What to put in your request

  • Type – formal, sports, thermal, trekking, terry, tactical;
  • Number of pairs – the price per pair is often lower for bulk orders;
  • Size – a range, for example UK 8–11, or your shoe size;
  • Height – no-show, ankle, mid-length, high;
  • Material – cotton, wool, merino, bamboo, synthetic; say if you want cotton without synthetics;
  • Colour – black, grey, a mix;
  • Brand – one you like, or any;
  • Delivery city and budget – the price per pair.

Example: “I need 10 pairs of men's socks, UK size 8–11, mid-length, black, cotton with elastane. Courier delivery to Pretoria, budget up to R 20 per pair.”

How to compare offers

Count the price per pair: a pack may hold three, five or ten pairs. Check the fabric content on the label: the share of cotton, polyamide and elastane makes a big difference to how long the socks last. Ask whether all the colours in the pack are the same, and whether you can exchange them if the size is wrong.

On BlaBlaPrice sellers send offers in the chat, see their place among the others and compete for your request. So you compare ready prices and terms instead of hunting for them shop by shop. The offer that gives the best value is shown first, with reviews next to it. More details are on the “How it works” page.

Common mistakes

People take cotton socks for a trek, and they get wet and rub. They buy too wide a size range: a sock that slides down wears out fast. They compare a pack of three pairs with a pack of five by the total price.

Questions and answers

Which socks are best for trekking?

Trekking socks made of merino or synthetics, with a reinforced heel and no coarse seams. Cotton gets wet quickly on a trek and rubs.

How do I choose the size of men's socks?

Go by your shoe size and the range on the pack, for example UK 8–11. If your size is on the edge, take the wider range.

Is it cheaper to buy socks in bulk?

Yes, the price per pair is usually lower for larger quantities. Say in your request how many pairs you need and compare the offers.

Can sellers see my phone number?

No. Contacts are hidden and are opened only to the seller you choose.
