How to find a trainer for a gym, group classes or a children's academy

Sport, group and way of working

A gym trainer, a yoga instructor, a swimming coach, a martial arts teacher and a children's coach all need different skills. Who the person will work with matters just as much: adults, children aged 6 to 10, beginner athletes, people recovering from injuries, groups or one-to-one sessions.

So state the discipline and the audience in the vacancy right away. A candidate who works with adults may not suit a group of seven-year-olds, and the other way round.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You create one request on BlaBlaPrice. It is checked for ads and contacts, you get hints about what is missing, and only then is it shown to trainers in your city.

In the chat they tell you about their qualifications, experience, certificates, convenient shifts and expected pay. The answers are compared by content, with reviews shown next to each. Only the trainer you choose gets your contacts. It is free for employers.

What to put in the vacancy

  • Discipline — gym, group programmes, yoga, swimming, martial arts;
  • Who they will work with — adults, children of a certain age, groups or one-to-one;
  • Pay — per session, per hour, or a fixed salary plus a share;
  • Shifts — evenings, weekends, morning groups;
  • Qualifications — sports degree, coaching certificates, state or national-level credentials;
  • Employment — freelance or regular employee;
  • Experience — from 2 years;
  • City and area.

Example: “A children's sports academy in Johannesburg needs a trainer for groups of children aged 6 to 10. Evenings and weekends. R 78 per session, freelance. Sports education and at least 2 years of experience with children.”

How to check a trainer and what to agree

Write separately about the format: personal training, small groups or large group classes. For one-to-one clients, the ability to build a programme and allow for injuries matters. For groups, charisma and the ability to keep the pace matter. These are different skills.

Ask for a trial session: you can see how the trainer presents the material, watches technique and safety and talks to the group. With children this is especially important: patience and the ability to hold attention are worth more than a medal.

Spell out how a cancelled class is paid, whether preparing programmes is paid and whether there are early-morning shifts. For a gym, ask who is responsible for safety during training and whether there is insurance. Look at similar vacancies in the “Beauty / fitness / sport” section, for example a club receptionist or a massage therapist.

Questions and answers

Is a sports degree compulsory?

Not always, but for working with children and in academies it is often required. State in the vacancy what is a must for you: a degree, a coaching credential or a certificate.

How is a trainer paid?

Most often per session or per hour, sometimes a salary plus a share of sales. State the scheme in the vacancy.

Can I find a trainer for evenings and weekends?

Yes, state the days and hours you need. Many trainers look for exactly this kind of schedule.

Does the employer pay for the search?

No, it is free for employers. Service providers pay a small fee only when you choose them.
