How to call a vet to your home: prices, timing, what to clarify

When a home visit makes sense

A vet at home is useful when the animal is old or finds it hard to move, when a trip to the clinic is stressful (especially for cats), when drips or injections are needed for several days in a row, or when there are many animals in the house. It is convenient, but there are limits: an ultrasound, X-ray and complex tests are not always possible at home, because they need equipment. So first describe the symptoms, and the vet will say whether a visit will be enough.

If the condition worsens sharply (seizures, breathlessness, injury, acute poisoning), do not wait for replies to a request, but call the nearest 24-hour clinic. A BlaBlaPrice request suits planned and not very urgent cases better.

How it works

You write one request in your own words: what is wrong with the animal, where you live, when you need the visit. It is checked for anything extra and you are told what is missing. Vets in your city reply in the chat: the cost of the visit separately from procedures, when they can come, and whether they bring medicines and a drip with them. Offers are compared by content, with reviews beside them. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose a doctor. The principle is described on the How it works page.

What to include

  • Symptoms — what exactly is happening and for how long;
  • Animal — species, breed, weight (the dose depends on weight), age;
  • Procedure — examination, drip, injections, taking tests, ultrasound, euthanasia;
  • Address — city and area, and floor if relevant;
  • When — this evening, at night, a particular day;
  • Number of visits — for example, three days in a row;
  • Budget, if you want to give a range.

Example: “Labrador, 35 kg, 14 years old, lethargic for the third day and barely eating. I need an examination and drips at home, 3 days in a row, in the morning. Dubai. Budget up to AED 73 per visit.”

How to compare offers

The sum in an offer may be made up of the visit, the doctor's work and the medicines. Ask for these to be itemised, and check whether the price is for one visit or for a course. Ask whether the vet is qualified and has experience with your kind of animal, and whether you can later get a summary with the diagnosis and prescriptions. At night or on a holiday a call-out usually costs differently, and it is better to know this in advance.

Common mistakes

A common mistake is to describe symptoms in one phrase, “bad condition”. The doctor needs details: what the animal ate, whether there was vomiting, the temperature, any chronic illness. Another is not giving the weight, and then hearing that a medicine had to be bought extra. If you need a planned procedure at a clinic, see veterinary care, and for vaccinations see vaccination and microchipping.

Questions and answers

Can a drip be given at home?

Yes, many vets give drips on home visits. Write how many days you need, and vets will give the price per visit or per course.

What should I do if the animal's condition is critical?

Do not wait for offers: go or call a 24-hour clinic at once. A request suits planned or not very urgent cases better.

What affects the cost of a call-out?

Distance, time of day, the number of procedures and medicines. Ask for the visit, the work and the medicines to be listed separately.

Do all vets see my number?

No, contacts are hidden and are opened only to the doctor you choose, by the channel you name yourself.
