How to find a taxi driver: commission, shifts, company car
Taxi terms are more than “driver needed”
Taxi drivers compare jobs by a clear set of points: which car, what percentage the company takes, who pays for fuel and whether there are steady bookings. A vague “good earnings” doesn't work. A good driver will reply to concrete figures and a clear schedule.
First decide who owns the car: the company or the driver. Pay, responsibility for repairs and even which kind of candidate is interested depend on it.
Dubai, like any big city, has seasons: in summer and at weekends there are more bookings, while on winter mornings it can be quiet. Say honestly what flow to expect, and don't promise a sum you cannot confirm.
Drivers also look at whether the car is serviced on time: a sound car means less downtime and more earnings.
What to put in the job post
- Car — make, class (economy, comfort), fuel, condition;
- Pay — a percentage of takings, fixed, a minimum amount per day;
- Place of work — city, areas;
- Schedule — day or night shifts, their length;
- Driving experience — overall and in a taxi;
- Paperwork — contract, terms of using the car;
- Cab service — which apps the work is linked to;
- Fuel — who pays, CNG or petrol.
Example: “Dubai. Drivers needed for company comfort-class cars, 12-hour day shifts. Commission 15%, minimum earnings of AED 51 a day, we work with the leading cab apps. Contract basis, 3+ years of experience, CNG paid by the driver.”

What to discuss before the first shift
Write down who is responsible for small repairs, washing, fines, tyres and accidents. Clarify whether the car has done many kilometres and whether it is insured. This is where conflicts between owner and driver arise most often.
Ask the candidate which cab apps and with what rating he has worked, and how he feels about evening and night bookings. A rating in the app shows well how a person treats passengers.
