Windows and balcony units: how to order without overpaying
Start with measurements and a plan
The price of windows is always worked out from their size, so the first step is to measure every opening: width and height separately. A balcony unit is a window plus a door, and they should be priced together. For a French window you need the height down to the floor. If you are not sure about the measurements, say so in your request and the company will send someone to measure. This is often free, but check with the seller.
Profile, glazing, opening type
Profiles differ in the number of chambers, wall thickness and manufacturer (for example Rehau or Veka). Choose the glazing for where you live: single, double or triple glazing, energy-saving or solar-control glass, tinting, laminated glass for safety. The opening type affects both price and convenience: a tilt-and-turn sash allows ventilation, a fixed one is cheaper.
Don't forget the small things that annoy you later: a mosquito net (important in many places), a child lock, micro-ventilation, handle colour. Put them in your request, or the offers will not be comparable.
What to put in your request
- What you need — windows, a balcony unit, a French window, balcony glazing, a sliding system.
- Sizes — for example, 1200×1400 mm for each window.
- Quantity — how many windows and units.
- Glazing — number of chambers, energy-saving, tinted.
- Profile — brand and number of chambers.
- Opening type — which sashes open and how.
- Colour or laminate — white, anthracite, oak.
- Measuring and fitting — sills, drip caps, reveals, removal of the old ones.
- Address and budget.
Example: “I need a balcony unit and 3 windows for a flat on the 6th floor, Rehau 5-chamber profile, double-glazed energy-saving glass, tilt-and-turn sashes, anthracite laminate outside. With sills, drip caps, reveals and removal of the old ones. Dubai. Budget up to AED 4,400.”
How offers come to you
On BlaBlaPrice you don't have to hunt for companies and wait for calls. You write a request, and window makers and installers reply in the chat with a quote, production time and fitting terms. Each one sees where their offer stands and can make it more attractive. BlaBlaPrice shows the best offer by content first, and you see seller reviews next to each one. Your phone number is opened only to the company you choose. The idea is explained on the How it works page.
Common mistakes when ordering windows
- Comparing prices without matching the profile and glazing: "cheaper" often means fewer chambers.
- Not finding out whether sills, drip caps and reveals are included, then paying extra.
- Ordering without allowing for production and fitting time, especially before the rainy season.
- Not checking the warranty on the hardware and on the fitting.
