Car mats for your car: how to choose and buy well
First decide the type of mat
The material decides both the price and how the mat behaves in the rainy season and in dirt. Rubber and polyurethane mats are cheap and easy to wash, but can stiffen in the cold. EVA mats with raised edges are light, keep their shape and often have a honeycomb pattern that collects water well. Fabric ones look neater and dampen noise, but dry slowly and soak up dirt. There are also 3D trays with high edges that protect the sill and floor from rain and mud.
Think about the boot separately: a mat for it is usually hard plastic or rubber and is sold as a separate set.
What matters most: fit for the model
A universal mat rarely lies perfectly, and a badly chosen one can ride under the pedals. So only mats made for your specific car make sense. Give not only the make and model but also the year or generation and the body type: in facelift versions the floor shape and fixings can differ. If the car has factory clips, ask whether they come in the kit. The shape can also differ for a version with a different tunnel, such as a hybrid.
What to put in the request
- Model and year: for example Toyota RAV4, 2020, body and generation.
- Type of mats: rubber, EVA, fabric, 3D trays, boot.
- Set: front only, the whole cabin, boot or third row.
- Colour and edging: for example black with grey edging.
- Maker: if you already have one in mind.
- Delivery: your city or courier.
- Budget: if you want to name it.
Example: “I need EVA mats for the cabin and boot of a 2020 Toyota RAV4, black with grey edging, with clips. Courier delivery to Melbourne, budget up to $86.”
How to compare offers
Two offers for “RAV4 mats” can be quite different. Check what the set consists of (is there a rear row and a tunnel mat), what material it is, whether there is edging, and whether the clips and the boot mat are included. Ask whether the pattern fits your year of manufacture, and whether you can return it if it did not fit. A photo of a real mat in a cabin is more reliable than an advertising picture.
How BlaBlaPrice helps
Instead of scrolling through dozens of similar listings, you create one request, and accessory sellers write to you in the chat themselves: what they offer, at what price, when they will ship. The site compares the replies and shows the best first, with reviews of the seller next to each. Everyone sees their place among the others, so each tries to give better terms. Your phone is hidden, and only the one you choose will see it. Read the details on the “How it works” page.
While buying mats you can also look at mud flaps or car sunshades. All accessories are collected in the “Car accessories” section.
Questions and answers
Which car mats are better: rubber, EVA or fabric?
For wet weather and the rainy season, EVA, rubber or 3D trays are handier because they are easy to wash. Fabric ones are softer and quieter, but handle damp worse. You can ask in the request for offers on two types and compare.
Will universal mats fit?
They are cheaper, but fit worse and can slide under the pedals. For the driver's place it is safer to take mats made for your model and year.
Can I buy only the boot mat or only the front mats?
Yes, state the set you need in the request: front, the whole cabin, boot or third row. Sellers will price exactly that.
Does the buyer pay for BlaBlaPrice?
No, the service is free for buyers. A seller pays a small fee only when you choose his offer.
