How to hire an electrician for sites or as permanent staff
First decide which electrician you need
An electrician who wires new buildings, one who assembles distribution boards and a maintenance electrician at a factory are three different profiles. The wiring electrician is good with cable, wall chasing and sockets. The panel builder knows circuits, MCBs, RCCBs and labelling. The maintenance electrician mostly services equipment, traces faults and keeps logs. If you mix everything into one vacancy, you will get people who can do “a little of everything” rather than the one you need.
What to include in the vacancy
- Type of work — rewiring, panel assembly, lighting, connecting appliances, maintenance.
- Qualification — for example a trade electrician certificate, or an electrical licence where your area requires one. This matters for working on installations on their own, so say it plainly.
- Pay — per day, per site or per point, for example $17 a day.
- Work location — city and area, one site or travelling between sites.
- Schedule — six days a week, 9 am to 6 pm, or as needed.
- Type of employment — permanent, per project, part-time.
- Experience — in years and on which kinds of sites.
- Tools — their own or the company's: multimeter, hammer drill, wall chaser.
Example request
“A Sydney renovation company needs an electrician for permanent work. Rewiring in flats, assembling distribution boards, fitting sockets and light fittings. Gachibowli area, six days a week, 9 am to 6 pm. At least 3 years' experience, trade electrician certificate, pay $17 a day, own basic tools.”
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You write the vacancy once, without choosing a category. The request is checked: no ads or contact details in the text, and you get hints on what candidates are missing. Electricians in your area reply in the chat: they tell you about their experience, qualification, expectations and when they can start. BlaBlaPrice shows the strongest replies first, judged by content, and the candidate's reviews are visible next to each. Your phone number stays hidden, and you pay nothing for the search. More on the page “How it works”.
How to check a candidate
Ask how they would wire a two-bedroom flat: how they split the circuits, which cable sizes they choose for sockets and for lighting, whether they fit an RCCB. The answer quickly shows real experience. Ask whether they have built distribution boards themselves and worked from a drawing.
Don't economise on qualification: an unqualified electrician should not work on their own. For related work such as an installer or a plumber, post separate vacancies so you don't expect one person to do everything.
If you are looking for work
Register as a service provider on BlaBlaPrice, choose this category and your area, and you will receive vacancies for electricians that you can reply to. All building trades are in the section “Construction / finishing works”.
