How to find a fitness trainer: personal, at the gym or online
Where to start your search
Decide your goal first, because it decides which trainer you need. Weight loss, muscle gain, recovery after an injury and competition prep are different programmes that need different experience. A trainer who runs great functional training groups may not be the right person for a lower-back problem.
Also decide where it suits you best: at a gym, at home or online. Online is often cheaper and more flexible, but a beginner without someone checking their form has a harder time. Many people book a few in-person sessions first and then move to video calls.
What to put in your request
A trainer cannot plan a programme or quote a price until they know who they will be working with:
- goal — lose 10 kg, gain weight, prepare for a run;
- type of training — gym, functional training, Pilates, yoga, stretching, CrossFit;
- format — one-to-one or group, at a gym, at home or online;
- fitness level — beginner, returning after a break or already training;
- health and limits — injuries, back problems, pregnancy, being overweight;
- how often — for example, 3 times a week;
- age and gender;
- city, area or gym;
- budget — per session or per month, if you want to name one.
Example: “Woman, 42, beginner, has a lower-back disc problem, and the doctor has allowed moderate exercise. I need a personal trainer in Vancouver, 3 times a week, to lose 10 kg and strengthen my back. Budget up to $14 per session.”
How searching on BlaBlaPrice works
You write one request. You do not have to scroll through trainer pages or message each one. Your request is checked and sent to trainers in your city. They reply in the chat with offers: session format, price per session or per package, and free slots. Reviews are shown next to every offer, and BlaBlaPrice shows the best match for your request first.
Your phone number stays hidden. Only the trainer you choose gets your contacts. Read more on the “How it works” page.
What to look at in the offers
- Whether the price includes building your programme, food advice and support between sessions.
- Whether gym entry is paid separately. Often you buy the gym membership yourself and the trainer charges only for their own work.
- How much a single session costs compared with a pack of 8 or 12, and what happens if you miss a session.
- Whether the trainer has experience with your exact goal or limitation.
If you have a medical condition, talk to your doctor first and tell the trainer what is allowed. Do not be shy about asking for their qualifications, certificates and experience with similar clients.
Common mistakes
Most often people ask for “just a trainer” without a goal and are then disappointed with the result. Another mistake is buying a big package before a trial session, without checking that the place suits you. It is better to start with one or two sessions.
If another kind of training interests you, look at martial arts and boxing coaches or sports and dance. All similar offers are collected in the “Education and sports services” section.
