Motorcycle footpegs and stands: side, centre, rider and pillion pegs
Which parts are we talking about
On a motorcycle, “footpeg” and “stand” can mean several different parts. The side stand (kickstand) holds the bike leaning when it is parked. The centre stand puts it upright on both wheels and is handy for chain maintenance and storage. Then there are the footpegs for the rider and the pillion: they fix the position of your feet while riding.
When buying, do not mix up these categories: searching just for “stand” without details will bring offers for different parts.
Why the side and the set matter
Footpegs are sold singly and in pairs, and the left and right pegs can differ, especially on the rider's side, where the gear lever is. So ask what is in the set: the peg itself, the bracket, the spring, the fixings. On many bikes the side stand has a cut-off switch for the ignition, and if you ignore it, the engine will not start with the stand down.
What to put in your request
- Type — side stand, centre stand, rider or pillion pegs.
- Motorcycle model — for example Honda Africa Twin.
- Year — the design changes between generations.
- Side — left, right or a pair.
- Original or aftermarket.
- Material — aluminium, steel.
- New or used.
- Delivery city and budget.
Example: “I need a pair of pillion footpegs for a Honda Africa Twin 2018, original or good aftermarket in aluminium. New. Delivery to Ottawa, budget up to $49.”
How to compare offers
First check compatibility by model and year. Then check the material: aluminium pegs are lighter, steel ones are tougher against breaking. For a side stand, ask whether the length matches the original: a longer one can change the lean angle of the bike, and a shorter one will not hold it on a slope. If the bike has a factory switch, make sure the part is designed for it.
For a used part, check that it is not bent and that the spring holds: a weak spring lets the stand fold by itself.
A word on footpegs: on off-road and touring bikes they are often swapped for wider ones, with teeth or rubber inserts. A wider peg holds a boot better in mud, while on tarmac a rubber insert damps vibration. Before choosing, think about how you ride and say so in the request, so sellers can suggest a suitable option.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You write a request in your own words, and sellers of motorcycle parts answer in chat: what they offer, the price, how they will deliver. Sellers compete for your request, so the terms often improve. Contacts stay hidden until you choose a seller. Also read how it works.
