Injectable cosmetic treatments: how to choose a specialist and compare prices
Injections are a medical procedure
Fillers, botulinum toxin, skin boosters, mesotherapy, PRP therapy (the “vampire facial”) and fat-dissolving injections all intervene in the skin, so the main thing here is not the price but who exactly does the work. Ask whether the specialist has medical training, where they practise, and whether you can see their documents and portfolio. Talk to a doctor before the procedure about contraindications and how it fits with your health.
What affects the cost
- Product. The brand, country of manufacture and where the packaging came from. Asking to see the sealed product with its labelling is normal practice.
- Quantity. Fillers are counted in millilitres, botulinum products in units. Two price lists in different units cannot be compared.
- Area. Lips, forehead and frown lines, cheekbones, under the eyes, neck: the difficulty and the amount differ.
- Specialist’s experience. Correcting or dissolving filler placed by another practitioner costs extra.
For a few days before the procedure it is better to avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medicines, unless your doctor advises otherwise: this lowers the risk of bruising. Tell the specialist at the consultation about everything you take regularly.
How to compare offers
Look at what the price includes: consultation, anaesthesia, a follow-up check or a correction after two weeks. Some clinics offer a correction free, others charge separately. Also ask whether you get a document about the product used and what aftercare they advise.
On BlaBlaPrice you do not need to call clinics: you describe the procedure once, and cosmetologists in your city reply in chat with a price, or what it depends on, and free dates. The platform shows the best-value offer first, with reviews next to each one. Specialists see where they stand among the others, so they compete on terms. Your phone number stays hidden. You can read how it all works in the “How it works” section.
What to include in your request
- procedure — fillers, botulinum toxin, skin boosters, mesotherapy, PRP, threads;
- area — for example forehead and frown lines;
- product and quantity — if you have a preference, for example Juvederm, 1 ml;
- number of sessions — one-time or a course;
- first time or correction — and whether earlier filler needs to be dissolved;
- qualification — doctor, licensed clinic, portfolio;
- date and time, area, budget.
Example: “I need lip filler, first time, 1 ml, preferably Juvederm. A dermatologist-cosmetologist with a portfolio, in a licensed clinic. Toronto, Saturday after 12:00. Budget up to $250.”
Common mistakes
The most common is choosing by the lowest price without asking about the product and the specialist’s training. The second is not mentioning allergies, medicines and earlier procedures. The third is planning injections just before an important event: swelling or bruises can last several days. For other services see cosmetology services and medical services.
