Looking for a bonnet: what decides the match
The bonnet of a Nissan Qashqai J10 looks like a simple part, but matching it has its quirks. First, the facelift changed the front end, so pre- and post-facelift bonnets are not always interchangeable. Second, the bonnet may carry washer jets, sound insulation and mounts for gas struts. Know what you have and write it down.
The easiest way is to send the seller a photo of the front of your car and give the year. But the VIN gives real certainty.
It is the same with wings and doors: they are sold in different forms. A door can be bare, with the trim and window regulator, or complete with glass and mirror. Wings may come with or without brackets. Say what you need and compare only offers with the same contents. For body parts also ask whether they come from a car that had no serious accident: the geometry of the body affects how the part sits.
What to put in your request
- Model and generation — for example, Nissan Qashqai J10;
- Part — bonnet, wing, door; with hinges and insulation or not;
- Year and whether it is a facelift;
- Engine — when the part depends on it;
- Side — for wings and doors;
- Colour — white, black and so on, or the paint code;
- Condition — no dents, cracks or signs of repainting;
- VIN;
- Delivery city and budget.
Example: “Nissan Qashqai J10, 2011 facelift, 2.0 petrol. I need a white bonnet, no dents or signs of repair, with hinges. Photos from all sides are a must. I will give the VIN. Courier delivery to Ottawa. Budget up to $200.”
A bulky part: packing and delivery
A bonnet is large and easily damaged in transit, so before buying find out how it will be packed and who is responsible for damage. Breakers that ship body parts regularly usually know how to make a strong box or crate. Ask about the delivery cost separately from the price of the bonnet, because offers may include it in different ways.
One more tip: if you plan to repaint, the colour does not matter, but a flat surface without dents and rust does. Then you can consider a part of any colour.
