Women's Sports Shoes for Your Sport: How to Buy at a Good Price

The shoe depends on the sport

There are no all-purpose trainers. Running on tarmac needs cushioning and room at the toe; trail running needs an aggressive tread and a firmer heel counter; volleyball and the gym need a stable sole that grips the floor well; yoga and dance need a thin, flexible one. Trekking shoes and water shoes are a separate matter.

So start with one question: what surface do you train on and how often? Tarmac, track, hills, a gym floor are different models even within one brand.

Foot, pronation and width

If you overpronate, have a wide foot or a high arch, it is better to say so in the request: many brands have stability lines and separate lasts. For long training loads, consult a coach or an orthopaedist, not just the seller. Running shoes are usually bought with about half a centimetre of room, because the foot expands a little when you run.

What to put in your request

  • sport — running, gym, volleyball, dance, yoga, trekking, water;
  • surface — tarmac, trail, gym floor, hills;
  • brand and model — for example Asics Gel-Kayano 30;
  • size — EU and insole length, for example 38.5;
  • foot features — pronation, wide foot, high arch;
  • condition — new or second-hand in good condition;
  • budget and the city for delivery.

Example: “I am looking for new women's volleyball shoes for indoor courts, size 38.5, wide foot, preferably Asics or Mizuno. Delivery to Vancouver. Budget up to $170.”

How to get offers and choose

Instead of paging through catalogues, write a request on BlaBlaPrice in your own words. Sports shops and private sellers reply in the chat with specific models, prices and delivery terms, and the platform shows the best offer first. Sellers see their position among the others and can improve their terms. Your phone number is hidden, and the principle is explained on the “How it works” page.

Compare the model year: previous generations are often cheaper, and for most training the difference is unnoticeable. Check the same article number, colour, country of manufacture and return terms. For second-hand, ask about the mileage: running shoes lose their cushioning, and it is better to know how far they have been used.

For your day off there are also everyday trainers and canvas shoes, and for foot health, orthopaedic shoes.

Questions and answers

Can I run in ordinary trainers?

For occasional walking, yes, but for running it is better to take models with cushioning. This reduces the load on your joints.

How much room should I leave in running shoes?

Usually about half a centimetre in front of the big toe. The foot expands a little as you run.

Does it make sense to buy last season's model?

Often yes: it may cost differently, and for most training the difference is unnoticeable. Mention in your request that you will consider older models too.

Does the buyer pay for BlaBlaPrice?

No, it is free for buyers. A seller pays a small fee only when you choose them.
