What the road rules say

Decorative lights on public roads are restricted in the United States. Aftermarket LED lights are expected to comply with the federal lighting standard, FMVSS 108, and not to interfere with the vehicle's original lighting. In most states it is illegal to drive with Christmas-style lights on your car on public roads, and driving with decorative lighting on public roads is generally not allowed.
