Garden equipment rental in the United States: prices and terms

Mowers and aerators sit at the lower end, while skid steers and mini excavators for larger plots cost more. For a price for your plot and the machine you need, describe the job in a request on BlaBlaPrice.

Approximate prices in United States, October 2026 (sellers' websites)
EquipmentPrice (US$)
Mower or aerator, per day$78–$225
Skid steer or mini excavator, per day$150–$375
Limb chipper, 6-inch, per day or per week$295 a day, $1,180 a week

Permits, licenses and fuel

For most garden jobs you do not need a permit to rent equipment, because permits generally apply to construction work rather than to the rental itself. Some states do require contractor licensing for people who do landscaping work for pay, so check your state before you start a paid job. On metered machines you pay for the fuel you use, on top of the day rate, and rental rates can include about eight hours of engine run.

Season and timing

October is a common time for leaf clearing and yard clean-up across much of the country, and spring is the next busy period for mowing and aeration. Winter runs from December to February and summer from June to August. Renting in autumn lets you finish clean-up before the winter months, and a larger job on a bigger plot is better planned for the warmer part of the year.

How rental is priced and delivered

Rental rates are quoted per day and per week, and monthly rates are often available on request. All prices are in US dollars and exclude fuel on metered machines. Tell the seller the plot area in square feet or acres, the power type (gas, electric or diesel), and whether you need delivery. A skid steer or excavator needs a trailer and a clear entrance, so measure the gate width in inches too.

What to write in your request

Say what you rent (mower, aerator, chipper, skid steer), the power type, the size of the plot, the working width or engine size, the rental length (a day, a week or a month) and any consumables such as fuel or blades. Add the delivery address, the city, your deposit or ID arrangements and your budget per month if the rent is long-term.

BlaBlaPrice is free for buyers. Describe the job in your own words in a chat, with a photo of the yard if it helps. The AI reads the request, asks for missing details and searches sellers' websites and price lists in the United States, then shows the prices and businesses it found. Registered sellers reply in the chat with their own price, terms and delivery, and your contact details stay hidden until you share them. You can also visit equipment rental or tool rental, or start from the rentals section.
