How to Buy a Bustier Top: Corset, Lace or Under a Blazer
Bustier, bralette or corset top
The names are often mixed up, and everything depends on the style: the fit, the support and what you can wear the top with. A bustier usually has cups, sometimes underwires, so it holds the bust almost like a bra. A bralette is soft, wireless and suits comfort more. A corset top with lacing or boning shapes the waist but needs exact measurements.
First decide what it is for. Under a blazer, a smooth one without bulky details is better, so nothing shows through the fabric. As a standalone top, satin, leather or lace with well-finished seams works. For a shirt or dress with a sheer back, look for silicone on the edge or removable straps.
Size: what to look at
Bustiers are measured in different ways. Some brands give letter sizes S/M/L, others a European chart such as 75B. For models with cups, the underbust measurement and the cup volume matter, and for corset styles also the length from the bust line to the waist. Ask the seller to give the garment's measurements, not just the label.
If the top has underwires, ask whether they are soft and whether they dig in under the arms. That is a detail you cannot see in the photo.

- how you will wear it — under a blazer, as a top, under a dress;
- material — lace, satin, leather, cotton, velvet;
- size — letter size or European, for example 75B;
- colour — and whether you need a seamless skin tone;
- brand, if you already have a favourite;
- condition — new with tags or second-hand, acceptable wear;
- city and budget, if you want to name one.
Example: “I am looking for a new bustier with underwires and soft cups, white, lace, size 75B. I will wear it under a blazer, delivery to Sha Tin needed. Budget up to HK$160.”
