Engine Parts for Motorcycles and Scooters: How to Buy at a Good Price
Start with the engine code
For engine parts the model of the bike is often less important than the engine itself. One scooter can have different engines, and the same engine sits in dozens of models. So the code and capacity come first: 139QMB 50 cc, GY6 150, 1E40QMB, 600 cc. You can find it on the crankcase or in the papers.
Size, repair and tuning
A cylinder kit (cylinder and piston) is sold by piston diameter: for example, 39 mm for a 50 cc scooter. If the cylinder has already been bored, you need a repair-size piston, for example +0.25. There are also big-bore kits: an 80 cc kit instead of 50 gives more power, but changes the engine life and needs the carburettor and exhaust to be adjusted. Always write whether you need a stock replacement or tuning.
For the cylinder head, valves and camshaft the valve sizes and the drive type matter. The crankshaft and connecting rod are checked for play: for a used part, ask about measurements, not just whether it is “alive”.
What to put in your request
- which part — cylinder kit, head, valves, camshaft, crankshaft, gaskets, complete engine;
- engine — code and capacity;
- bike model — for example the Honda Tact scooter;
- size — piston diameter, repair size;
- stock or tuning;
- original or aftermarket;
- condition — new, used in working order or reconditioned;
- delivery city and budget.
Example: “I need a cylinder kit for a Honda Tact scooter with a 50 cc engine, 39 mm piston, stock size, new, aftermarket of decent quality. Delivery to Tsuen Wan, budget up to HK$330.”
What to compare in replies
- What is included: piston, rings, pin, circlips, cylinder, gaskets. A cheap kit may lack something.
- Cylinder material and coating: cast iron, aluminium with a coating.
- For a complete engine: mileage, compression, whether it has been started, whether there are papers.
- Warranty and return terms if the size does not fit.
For a used head or block, ask for photos of the inner surfaces: scratches on the cylinder wall or cracks are visible at once.
How BlaBlaPrice works here
You describe the engine and the part in one request, and sellers reply in the chat with price, condition and timing. They see where their offer stands, so they often improve their terms. The site shows the best-value one first, with reviews of the seller beside it, and your phone number stays hidden. More in “How it works”.
With engine repair you will often need bearings, gearboxes or drive and running gear.
