Family doctor and GP: home visit or a clinic appointment
When to see a family doctor or GP
A family doctor or general physician is the first doctor you see for a cold, fever, high blood pressure, sore throat, cough, weakness or a general check-up. They assess your condition, prescribe tests and treatment and, if needed, refer you to a specialist. For a child, people usually look for a paediatrician rather than a GP.
This is a private appointment by arrangement, and it does not replace emergency care. If there is severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, signs of a stroke or a very high fever that does not come down, do not wait for offers in the chat: call an ambulance or 112.
Clinic visit or home visit
At home, a doctor can see an elderly person who cannot travel, or a patient with a high fever. Some bring a portable ECG machine or a pulse oximeter, and you can order these in the same visit. However, what can be examined at home is limited: blood tests, ultrasound or X-rays are usually done separately. In a clinic there are more options, but you have to travel.
Ask whether the doctor can come the same day, in what time window, and whether the travel charge is included in the price. For urgent conditions speed matters, not the lowest price.
What to include in your request
- complaints or purpose — fever, cough, blood pressure, check-up, a medical certificate;
- type of visit — home visit, clinic, online;
- patient — age and any chronic illnesses the doctor should know about;
- scope — just an examination, or also an ECG, blood sampling, a drip on prescription;
- when — today, tomorrow, at the weekend;
- city and area;
- qualification — experience, especially with elderly patients;
- budget, if you want to state it.
Example: “I need a GP to visit my home today: my grandmother is 80, has hypertension and a fever of 102°F. Preferably with an ECG at home and a senior doctor. Kowloon. Budget up to HK$140.”
How to compare offers
Check exactly what a visit includes: examination, ECG, written advice, a follow-up call. Ask whether the doctor issues digital prescriptions and can do a follow-up consultation online. A price without these details means little. Look at reviews, qualifications and profile. Do not expect a diagnosis or medicines over the phone without an examination: a serious doctor does not prescribe treatment at random.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You write one request and do not have to call clinics. Doctors reply in chat: visit time, what the price includes, the cost of the home visit. The platform shows the best-value offer first, with reviews next to each one. Doctors see where they stand among the others and often improve their terms. Your phone number is hidden: only the doctor you choose gets your contacts. More on the “How it works” page.
