Girls' clothing: how to find what you need at a good price
Start with height, not age
Size charts in children's clothing differ between brands, so “7 years” guarantees nothing. Measure height in centimetres and write it in the request. If the item is imported, add the brand too: sellers know whether its sizes run big or small.
Girls grow unevenly, so for outerwear and shoes buy for the season, not to grow into. For pyjamas, T-shirts and skirts, a size of room is quite fine.
New or used: where it makes sense to save
Clothes a child wears briefly are often sold in excellent condition: festive dresses, jackets, school things, costumes for a function. Used can be much cheaper here. Underwear, tights and swimwear are better bought new. For used items ask about wear on seams and zips, and ask for photos in daylight.
What to put in your request
- what exactly — jacket, dress, suit, jeans, or a festive look, for example a fairy costume;
- size — height in cm, the size on the label or age;
- season — summer, rainy season, winter;
- occasion — every day, school, nursery function, sport;
- colour and fabric — cotton, wool, fleece, down;
- brand — Reserved, H&M or another;
- condition — new or used, and what is acceptable;
- delivery city and budget, if you want to name it.
“I'm looking for a festive light blue dress for a girl, height 128 cm, for a nursery annual day. Cotton or satin, new or used in good condition. Delivery to Central, budget up to HK$190.”
How to compare offers
Make sure size, season and condition are the same. Look at the fabric content: cotton and knitted items have less synthetic and breathe better. For a new item, ask about return or exchange if the size doesn't fit, and for a used one, ask for honest photos and any flaws.
Sellers often offer bundles: several items in one size cost less together than separately. Say so in the request if you need several items.
