Style, not just a price per hour
A family session in a park, children’s photos, a love story, a portrait for a CV or event coverage: each case has different needs. So start with what the photos are for, and only then look for a photographer. It is best to look at the portfolio in the genre you need: lovely wedding photos do not guarantee a successful children’s shoot.
Light and location affect the result as much as the equipment. A studio gives stable conditions, while outdoors gives beautiful light but depends on the weather and the time of day. The golden hour in the evening or morning is usually softer.
How to get offers on BlaBlaPrice
You write a request: what to shoot, when, where and how many people. You can add one photo, for example an example of the style. The request is checked, and you are told what the photographers still need.
Photographers reply in the chat: a free date, what is in the package, the price or what it depends on, timing and examples of work. Each one sees where their offer ranks and can improve their terms. What to put in your request
- Type of shoot — family, children’s, love story, portrait, product, event coverage.
- Date — a specific day or a period.
- Duration — for example, 2 hours.
- Location — studio, park, your home, a venue; and the city.
- Number of people or items.
- Edited photos — how many frames and what level of retouching.
- Extras — studio hire, makeup artist, props, a printed album.
- Delivery date and budget.
Example: “Family photo shoot for 4 people, two children, on 21 November, in a park or studio in Kowloon. 2 hours of shooting, 50 retouched photos, a makeup artist for mum. Ready in 5 days, budget up to HK$750.”
Retouching: what it is and how much you need
There is basic editing (colour, exposure, cropping) and detailed retouching: skin, removing unwanted objects, restoring a frame. Usually all frames get basic editing, and retouching is done for selected ones. So ask how many retouched photos are included in the price and how much each extra one costs.
If you need retouching of ready photos only (no shoot), say so directly and add an example or a photo. Retouchers estimate the volume by complexity: a portrait with minimal touch-ups and a collage with restoration are very different jobs.
How to compare and agree
Look at the package, not the number: shooting time, the number of edited frames, whether there is a studio visit, the format you will receive and how (online gallery, USB drive). Ask what happens with the weather if the shoot is outdoors and whether the date can be moved without losses.
Describe your wishes to the photographer in advance and give examples of frames you like. For children’s sessions, allow time for breaks and do not plan too many locations. Agree whether the photos can be published and who holds the rights to them.
